Navy to name ship after fallen Patchogue serviceman

It great the Navy did this, so after 2011 when the ship is commissioned, whatever hell hole our brave men and women are defending us from the forces of evil at the time, and we shell the **** out of some enemy bunker, we can proudly say, "Courtesy of Lt. Michael P. Murphy."

Get your facts straight. The crew of that aircraft carrier posted the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner to signify that they had accomplished THEIR mission, and were coming home. That wasn't a political statement, but Bush's opponents were quick to jump on it as one.

He won the Medal of Honor, which is a rare feat, while the courage of all of our troops is far from rare. However, given that the Navy currently has about 300 ships, and only builds maybe about a half dozen a year, this was a good choice.

this guy died in war protecting you people from commies and terrorists - i think a more fitting honor is to rename Laguardia airport after him as well, i mean name 10 people who actually know who Laguardia was- he was a politican - same as Kennedy - and Macarthur - he didnt die in no battle - they should rename them Murphy airport, murphy field and murphy aerodrome - and they should push to rename newark airport just for having the honor and privledge of being next to the state where murphy lived

What really bothers me is when we name things after these politicians, especially ones that are still alive.

For example, there is a park in Rockville Center that is named for state senator Dean Skelos. Why is it named in his honor? What did he do to get this honor?

The answer is, he secured the funding for the park. That’s right, he got the state to give some of our taxes back to RVC. Kinda like Robin Hood. Wasn’t Robin Hood a criminal?

Now, if Mr. Skelos had donated the money himself, but all means name the park after him. But, that wasn’t the case.

you dont have to earn anything just being a citizen earns you the right to speak your mind about war politics and life. i've been against this war from the start. i was duped by the UN press conference but 2 nights before the invasion i realized what was going on. We have lost our country to the lobbyist and corporations. We are nothing but a name now, we dont have freedom it's just a phrase and a buzz word. When we cant even get proper voting machines to work correctly how are we free? and whats sad is there are so many more of us than there are of them. the middle class is being destroyed by the weakening of the dollar and the surging prices of basically everything. We need to rise up and fight back and just say no to these **** Whether its just me or a million of us i will be defiant and preserve what this country means and stands for.
