I think all of the people in our Armed Forces are great people. Their sacrifice is what allows my family to sleep peacefully at night.

Lt. Murphy is not alone. Forty years ago. LTjg Robert Moinester from Lynbrook was killed in Vietnam. Hi actions earned him the Silver Star, the National Order of Vietnam and Gallantry Cross with Palm from the Republic of Vietnam. Further, in 1973, the US Navy named a frigate after him, the USS Moinester, DE-1097.

More can be seen at:

Or, just google USS Moinester

This is a wonderful honor to be had for a Fallen Hero. Now the family will have a memory of a fallen hero that all will see. Thank you to the Dept of the Navy for doing this for the family.

Why? Tell the Dept. of Navy to stop the BS and treat our servicemen and women the way they should be treated. I don't give a tinker's damn about the name of a ship. How about decent housing, a living wage, good health care. Treat our servicemen and women the right way and not stop the news cycle spinning. It's sickening. This is just the republican spin machine and you guys fall for it everytime. You people are so easy to fool. Please take your heads out of the sand. Haven't you been biten in the butt enough?

As a former LI'er and a proud Navy veteran, I feel proud that the Navy would name a warship after a local HERO. This nation has other HEROS that deserve the same honor.
Perhaps the Navy should consider renaming the USS Winston Churchill after an AMERICAN HERO.
Grateful

I am grateful to ALL who have served and to those who currently serve. The responsibility we ALL have is to ALWAYS recognize ALL of them. If one individual is being recognized, that is wonderful. Rather than COMPLAINING about it, it is our job to try and recognize others. Bring their service to the attention of the public. I am grateful that any of them are being recognized as opposed to those poor boys who came home from Vietnam to be shunned and called names. The ship is not just representative of Lt. Murphy, it is symbolic of his brothers (and sisters) in arms. If any vets are reading this, no matter when they served, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY. YOU HAVE NOT BEEN FORGOTTEN.

Well it's better to have named the ship after a service man than to have it named for a place, state, or politition.

It was the liberals who got us into Iraq. It was the liberals that did not want the American public to see coffins of American soldiers. It was the liberal who declared we won the war and yet another 3000 men and women died. It was the liberals who planned the war.It was the liberals who got friends to make billions off the Iraq war. It was the liberals who led this country into an economic down turn. It was the liberals who got Nassau County to have one of the highest property taxes in the country. Yeah the liberals did all of that.

It would be nice if things could be this way. Unfortunately, they cannot.

Our country has lost many brave soldiers. It is a sad commentary, but it is also the life of being a soldier. A soldier goes into harms way, and sometimes they do not make it home.

We do things for soldiers. We give them medals, we give them ribbons. But there are reasons for everything we do. There is a reason why only a select few are awarded the Medal of Honor. There is a reason why the navy will name a ship in honor of someone. In my mind, every soldier is a hero. However, it seams that some awards are only given to those who save other soldiers lives, often at the expense of their own.

Lt. Michael P. Murphy, like LTjg Robert Moinester forty years ago, was one of those soldiers.

Yea maybe if Clinton hadn't slashed the size of the armed forces, especially the navy when he was in officer, there would be a lot more ships to name after our fallen heroes!

No they couldn't have done that, they were to busy looking for the next government handout.
