We just don't "show up" we are sent by our dispatch and are told the "State doesn't have enough personnel to drive the ambulance and are requesting our assistance."

<quoted text>I had to read your babble twice to try and figure it out. Of course anything within the county's borders is withing the GAOE of NCPD but may not be the "jurisdiction" for investigations. My point was that the NYSP is a great agency but they don't staff the Parkways adequately. If the NYSP manned their road with enough personnel the county police wouldn't have to assist them on almost every moderate accident that they have. Get it now?
The officer did not and Was not assisting the State Police, he was using the Parkway as a Short Cut to respond to a Call.

And just an FYI. You can talk to your Wife, Children or Girlfriend with that tone, Not me

Please show us just where you got this information that the County Police have to assist on almost every moderate accident. Go to news12 and search their archives of moderate accidents and lets see how many County cars were called in.
Its possible he was the closest officer and it makes sense for him to respond.
You have not a clue on how things work yet find it necessary to put your two cents in. The Parkways are handled by the NYSP but are within the confines of either Nassau or Suffolk Counties. I can speak on Nassau because I work there. When I was a patrol cop I was SENT to the Parkway on NUMEROUS occations to assist the NYSP with either traffic control due to lack of man power, to assist with aideds due to lack of man power and to drive the ambulance for the Troopers due to lack of man power. I speak upon my experience as a County Police Officer. And your experience would be what there Mr. F or F?

Did you read the article?

The original article stated that he was responding to an overturned auto on the Southern State Parkway. That would be assisting the Troopers.

I highly doubt you were ever a Police Officer. You don't even know how to spell PRECINCT. As for you Superior Officer comment once you are retired you are a civilian and no superior of mine. Have a good day.

Shows that he's not paying attention to his job. If he's busy chatting on his cell phone, he's not paying attention to his driving.
Why is it with cops it's "do as I say, not as I do"? Why aren't they following the same laws they are supposed to enforce?
She should give us his name & shield number so he can be reprimanded by his supervisor.

Troopers dont drive ambulances Mr ex County Police Officer, never have and never will.
"When I was a patrol cop I was SENT to the Parkway on NUMEROUS occations to assist the NYSP with either traffic control due to lack of man power, to assist with aideds due to lack of man power and to drive the ambulance for the Troopers due to lack of man power" really, well like I said, lets search the news archives and see just how many County cars were called out to assist the State Police. You are only correct about one thing, the Troopers are understaffed as are teh County forces.

The original article was incorrect, there was no overturned vehicle on the parkway.

I am still an active Police Officer just not in a uniform or marked car for starters. Next, why in heck would the news care about an average auto accident with injury that occurs daily on our roadways that the county police assist the state? Rest assured the counties are keeping track of it though.

News 12 cares because its all they have to report. I didnt say they cared because the County assisted, but the footage would clearly show who was on scene.

Our tax dollars pay for every cop injured in any accident, big or small be airlifted to the hospital. Give me a break. He was one exit away from Franklin General hospital which is right off the parkway. Its not even 3-miles. This is absurd. And then the dozens of cops that have to go to it. There was an accident in Old Westbury last Sunday where the same thing , and theyre was 20-police cars. Cop was airlifted, and the other driver was fine. its getting way out of hand.
Franklin General is not a Level 1 Trauma Center -- the kind of hospital that someone with that type of injury should be sent to.

<quoted text>Hindsight is always 20/20. All they knew was that an officer needed assistance, and they responded. It could have been a major accident, instead of "a mild fender bender". How are they to know until they get there? I'm sure most of them left after they saw their fellow officer wasn't badly injured.
By the way, how do you know there were "30 police cars" there? Did you count them, or are you just exaggerating to bash cops?
I was there. I wanted to see why the road was closed... and i counted them all. Pathetic.

I once asked the same question in a defensive driving course. The guy giving the course said cops by law don't have to wear their seatbelts while on duty although he said most do which I disagree with.
The Same is also true for Taxi and Limo drivers as well
