Did anyone expect something different from Payne. It's more of the same These officers both black and white had no political agenda, they reacted to what they beleived to be hostile conditions endangering their lives, ie. a car attempting to run one of them over and the belief that a weapon was present because of conversation they actually heard and movement within the car.. although tragic, not criminal. We understand Les creating controversey is your thing.

Typical race baiting article from Les Payne, should we expect anything less? Instead of taking your typical "woe is me" attitude, why not encourage more inner-city young black men and women to join the NYPD, since you claim sir that it "a mostly white force?" Why not help break the stereotype of the urban areas that being a police officer means becoming a "snitch?" Why not do something to help you community instead of just whining about it?

My how the duplicity shines. I recall the boisterous, joyous celebration that accompanied the acquittal of a former football star who slaughtered two white people in the most brutal manner. I remember hearing the jokes from black comics about their gruesome death, the trumpeting from the rooftops as though THAT miscarriage of justice was a good ole fashioned revival. And now we have police officers in one of the most dangerous cities anywhere thrust into an element rife with danger and men of low character and we're going to point the finger at these men who had to decide in the blink of an eye if they're going to be run over or fire their weapon? So first of all, let's be real with each other, let's understand that the "black activist" community, Sharpton et al, are NOT interested in Justice, equal among all men, but special treatment and exemption from police authority. I am sick to death of these rabble rousing hucksters who clothe themselves arrogantly with the title of "Minister" and such when they agitate all manner of situations in a fashion worthy of the Devil himself. Let's realize that in the case of Mr. Bell, had he complied with the orders of the officers to stop and not struck their vehicle, this would never have happened, ridiculous claims of ole Uncle Al nonwithstanding.

Why does Les Payne break down race all through the article but NEVER MENTIONS THE FACT THAT TWO OF THE THREE OFFICERS WERE BLACK, IE AFRICAN AMERICAN? Because Les is a pathetic, has been, hack. See Les, one to the reasons Newsday has been going down the drain is because reporters/columnists like you, think that your readers are dumb. By the fact that your paper is sinking, proves just the opposite, they are smarter then you, you loser. BTW: I am reading this online, I did not buy today's Newsday. I haven't bought one in 18 years.

Les Payne, get a copy the Amsterdam News and read disbarred attorney Alton Maddox's column. Read carefully his suggestion that Gov. David Patterson can PUT THE NYPD UNDER RECEIVERSHIP, JUST LIKE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN WALLKILL, NY. Obviously, black life is undervalued in Amerikka, much less NYC.

It's poor training on the officers' part, bad timing on the people who were shot, and a poorly written article on the author's part. I also find it interesting how much hatred these readers have which warrants an un-American judgmental attitude of Mr. Bell -- criminal until proven innocent, eh? He has every right to travel to any place he wishes, as long as it's not a matter of national security or a violation of someone else's property rights. It's also interesting to note that none of the officers were actually run over, or that none of the people shot had guns, drugs, or prostitutes -- which constituted 50 rounds of excessively firing into unarmed men who fled because they were scared. In other words, everybody is guilty until rendered dead. Not to mention, if someone breaks into your house and you unload 50 rounds into them, you're going to jail. Which is fine too, right? Btw - I love the racist's calling the racist's racist. This is coming from both sides of the isle.

Everyone seems to overlook the fact that Mr.Bell drove his car towards the cop. Someone also yelled "yo, go get my gun" allegedly. I do not understand, however, why the 1 cop had to reload. But then again he was one of the black ones. HE should have been convicted. But then the system would have been racist again. Al is a poison and anyone who he calls to help should tell him to shutthefukup. He does no good for anyone but himself.

I am sorry to break the news to you but until blacks stop committing the majority of crimes (PER CAPITA) in the inner city ghettos they create, and start living responsible lives, it will be hard for the police not to suspect a group of blacks out late in a bad neighborhood of doing something illegal and more incidents like the ones mentioned will occur. Perhaps you would be better off pleading with blacks to change their lives and stop topping the charts (PER CAPITA) in crime, welfare, illiteracy, STDs, etc.
