Help _people_??

You've got the wrong crowd. In their heart of hearts, PETA types are basically advocating mass human suicides and sterilizations so the planet can be restored to some kind of pre-anthropological bell jar environment.

A pity they're not more effective leaders by example.

"spend your time helping kids or something"... Or something.. hmmm...how about TB race horses?

If you have a heart, you speak up for all of those who can not speak for themselves- children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and yes animals too!

So Peta goes ahead and presumes to know what a TB race horse would say? You know its likely to be something like..."hey Peta, but out before you ruin the best gig a horse ever knew **** are worth a lot of money, more than a car, more than a race car, even more than some planes. They are someones investment, and people tend to care for their really big investments. Peta's involvement is really not needed to police the horse racing industry...there are much needier animals and worthier causes...but, and herein lies the problem with Peta, they are not glamorous causes, they are not high profile, and they are certainly not easy targets like a vice industry is. Peta is far more interested in promoting itself, and keeping its name out there, than just or righteous causes.

I totally agree. I happen to know some people involved in horse racing, and I can tell you they really care about the horses, and these horses live better lives than most people. Not to mention the vetinary advances that have been made thanks to horse racing. PETA would like you to think these horses end up in cat food, when the truth is they end up being studs or a pet to some millionares teenage daughter, either way, sounds pretty sweet to me.

I work at a place that has many animals(like a zoo). Two of **** dies last year of old age. PETA came and wanted to turn them all loose! Believe me, we love those animals. If I see anything, anything,I will call everyone I can find quickly. I think it probably the same with the horses. Most people mean well, but there's always that few that have to ruin everything.

Violence, fear and coercion: how we treat racehorses
__________

***Around 800 racehorses die each year from fatal injuries suffered on US racetracks. An additional number of approximately 3,566 sustain
injuries so bad that they cannot finish their races.

***Several breeding and horse handling abuses contribute to the great risk of death and injury that horses face.

***Breeders often race horses as young as two. These horses lack fully developed bone structure, and are more likely to suffer injury.

***Due to selective genetic pairing and breeding, many racehorses are born with fragile bodies to begin with. Selective breeding does not provide the gene pool with diverse enough genetic material to avoid genetic defects that arise as a result of inbreeding.

***Because jockeys race horses year round on hard tracks, which give less and are harder on a horse’s joints and bones, horses incur greater injury risk. Large corporate breeders race their "investments" too often in pursuit of profit.

***To keep horses racing through pain, handlers administer Lasix & Bute. These pain relievers numb pain, but do not treat the injuries that
cause pain. Consequently, the injuries get worse.

***Horses that suffer severe injuries as a result of drug induced racing get sold to
slaughterhouses, a more profitable venture for breeders than euthanization.

***Horses suffer long cramped rides to the slaughterhouse without painkillers, in unfit trailers. Handlers use Lasix to mask the
presence of [illegal substances] such as steroids.

***A horse that [fails to win can face death in a slaughterhouse] where operators sell horse's flesh overseas for human consumption, or
provide horsemeat to glue factories.

***Int'l Fund for Horses

***800 deaths a year would be unacceptable in any other sport. RIP 8 Belles- dead at 3 yrs.- should have lived to 30.

I like horses and I like horse-racing. If PETA is not trying to close down horse-racing but make it safer for the horses I'm all for it.

PETA is the rev al of animals, always out there promoting themselves in a high profile case but will never apologize if they are wrong about something, and will never help those who actually need it if it won't make the news

I think the PETA people should stand on the track just as the horses are rounding the last turn and are a full speed. Run them all down.

Animals are not people and cannot speak for themselves.

Apparently, PETA assumes they know what **** would say.

Perhaps many would be happy to be fed and pet each day and safe in the knowledge they are not going to become another 'innocent' animal's dinner.
