Mets pitchers enjoying more freedom under Warthen
The parting words were classic Rick Peterson. On his way to a waiting limo June 17, in the lobby of the team's hotel, Peterson described the decision to replace him with Triple-A pitching coach Dan Warthen in ...

Good story, Pelfry really has a lot to say about it. Its interesting to note that the pitchers most helped by warthen are Perez and Pelfry. The young guys. Maines numbers are worse but he has been pitching in pain for who knows how long? Pascucci, how old is he? Its obvious the mets consider him a AAAA player and have not given him a chance despite their desperate outfield situation, Or could it be they want to see the guys they drafted have a chance to succeed first?

Nice Mets PR piece that discreetly avoids the bullpen's implosion under Warthen. Tough to put too much faith in Warthen given that he evidently doesn't believe in statistics, and so far his claim to fame is allowing Pelfrey to blossom into one of the game's long line of great sinker/curveball pitchers - good luck with that - and Perez? I'm sure Peterson won't be the last pitching coach he gets fired.

Another wonderful negative Met Fan. Any team in baseball would love to have Ollie Perez.

i would've fired patterson sorely based on his comments about fixing victor zambrano in 10 mintues, along with jim duquette's sorry existence.

Nice work...the Cards are huge video devotees. I'm anxious to see if Warthen can fix Heilman...

Full disclosure: I'm not related to Rick Peterson, but I think it's sad and creepy that the organization is throwing a guy under the bus who a lot more good than harm during his time here, and who is generally acknowledged to be one of the top 10 pitching coaches in the game. Let's just say I'm a little skeptical that Dan Warthen is reinventing the wheel by looking at some video and telling people to be themselves. Why is Santana's velocity down? Maybe because it's been down for the past two years. Why is he pitching better lately? He's always been a second-half pitcher. Great if the new guy has helped Pelfrey, but Pelfrey still doesn't have an out pitch and his secondary pitches are for show only. What's going on with Perez? Who knows, he's a headcase - buyer beware.
