My cat died yesterday thanks to HARTZ, I am so angry and sad I could scream.

Noni, I am so sorry for your loss. |

I got my first kitten and have had him only a month. He's now 4 months old and weighs 5.5 lbs. Thinking I was doing well, I bought some of the flea and tick drops from Hartz. Put it on him last night. My normally bouncy and jumpy kitten was lethargic this morning, not severe, but definitely a slow mover today. After reading this blog, I'm going to wash it off him tonight. From now on, I ask the vet first. I have friends that have used it on their dog without any problems, so I felt safe using the cat version.

I am so sorry Mike, wash it off of him Now if you can, don't wait, it also literally burned another cat of mine. It is deadly.
I wish you well, I had tro wash my other cat twice to get it all off. good luck and let us know how he is please. HARTZ SUX. Angry in Texas |

It makes me so angry when I go down the pet isle at Wal-Mart and see this stuff still on the shelves when I know it has hurt and killed so many pets. I don't believe the stuff from conventional vets is much better and there aren't a lot of holistic vets around. Holistic vets are the only vets that I trust but there are none in the area that I live in now so I do as much research as I can on my own hoping that I will have the knowledge to do the right thing if the need arises. I do use a conventional vet for my animals but I would rather use a holistic vet.

Thank you Hindsight, I have been working on hartz and doing all I can do to make them pay, I have proof and thay are aware of this, even offered to pay the bill, I guess we will see if they do but meanwhile, I am telling everyone I know and everywhere I go about the POISION called HARTZ. I will next contact walmart where I purchased the product and see if they wish to be included in a huge national lawsuit - THIS IS FAR FROM OVER, enough of our beloved pets have died or have been injured.
VERY ANGRY in Texas! Bless you all. |

Noni, the best of luck to you. I believe Hartz will pay for your expenses and probably give you enough to buy another cat but we both know that a good friend just can't be replaced. Some of these animals are better than friends; they never talk behind your back, never intentionally do anything to harm you, never repeat to someone else what you have told them, never lie, never cheat, and love you unconditionally, they don't care if you are rich or poor, the perfect friend. I've had many animals over the years and honestly can't tell you which one I loved the most, they are like children to me. I am trying to keep this topic near the top of the page so that more people will be aware of how dangerous this flea product can be for their dogs and cats.

I'm so upset - I put some Hartz cat drops on my cat and he has disappeared. I knew right away that he was stressed and had an immediate bad reaction, but he jumped out of my arms and I haven't seen him since. I HATE HARTZ I will never forgive that company for hurting my beautiful beloved pet! I followed directions, trusted the company - what a horrible, horrible "joke". We should all create and join in a class action lawsuit against them.

Promom, I'm sorry about your cat and hope he has came back home by now. I know this stuff really hurts them. It burns their skin. My little dog had a fit when I used it on him, got out in the grass and did his best to rub it off and wouldn't come near me for awhile, probably afraid that I was going to put more on him. I think it is probably the same with any of the drops because I used Freedom (for flies) on my horses ONE time and they did not like it at all and acted like it hurt them so I never used it again. If I remember right, Freedom isn't a Hartz product. When my little dog acted the way he did though, there was still a tiny bit left in the container and I put just a wee bit on my skin just to see and it burnt like fire so I washed it off right away and that was the last that I ever bought and will never buy any of those drops again.

I have been lucky, as my two Labs have something in their coat that fleas seem not to like.....

Athena, I am so sorry to hear about Joey. I am trying to keep this topic near the top of the page so that more pet owners will read it and know how dangerous the Hartz products can be. I honestly believe there are other products out there just as bad but these Hartz products that are killing pets or making them deathly sick need to be taken off the shelves.

I have a 10 year old cat. I put "Hartz Ultra Guard One Spot Treatment" on him on October 6th.. The very next day, he had licked 90% of the fur off his chest, one of his front legs and a large patch of fur was scratched off from behind of his ears. Within 48 hours, he had large, deep red lesions on his chest. It looked terrible and he was crying all day and all night ! I had put the flea control on the back of his neck as it is stated in the instructions, so I thought he had gotten into something outside. He was crying a lot which he never does, but he wouldn't let me get near him to find out what was wrong. I finally took him to the vet and she said it was the Hartz that did it ! Although I was given medication to relieve his pain and stopping him from licking and scratching more fur off, it's been 6 days now and he still seems to be in pain. Didn't anyone else's pet lose a lot of fur, or, lick themselves almost bald ?! I'm going to take him back to the vet to see if they can do anything else for him. I'm on a disability pension so this is very difficult for me and vets here are very expensive ! Since their prroduct has caused me and my poor cat so much trauma, pain and expense. I'd like Hartz to pay my vet bill !! Has anyone been successful in sueing them ?! Thanks !
|

Heartbroken, I don't know if anyone has been successful in sueing Hartz or not but it certainly wouldn't hurt to contact them by phone or even certified letter and tell them exactly what took place with your cat, what the vet said caused it, your total vet bill and the fact that you are on disability. They just may pay for everything since this is an ongoing problem that they know about. I can't believe they haven't recalled this stuff yet.

Tuesday I purchased Hartz Ultra Guard Flea and Tick Drops at a local Walmart to treat my dog Zeus for fleas. Tonight we noticed that his fur was coming out in clumps from the area that we applied this product. Once we bathed him we noticed that the areas were red swollen and tender to the touch. Zeus acted as if he was in pain just from pouring water on the areas. I am now reading all the terrible situations from consumers using this product. I would much rather my dog have fleas then use this product ever again. At least fleas do not make him yelp in pain. Hopefully we will not have to take our baby to the vet to seek any medical attention. I called the number listed on the back of the product and of course the customer service department is not open. As many complaints that I have read tonight this product line should be pulled from the shelves ASAP!

I have been working for TWO years to find a lawyer to take a case for me. I lost four cats within 24 hours due to Hartz flea drops--4 of them, and the other 3 had to spend a night in the vet hospital. All I managed to get from Hartz was a letter stating this was "an isolated" incident--and if I could send them hair samples from the deceased cats (whom had been creamated and they knew that!) they would pay the vet bill. That is all I have heard from them--and needless to say, no vet bill got paid by them.
I have since received many letters from others that state the same "isolated incident" line--hmm..seems like a lot of them are going around. |

My 10 year old cat has been to two different vets over the past 6 weeks. He has now lost 70% of his fur and half of his body weight. I'm afraid he might die. I am so upset I don't know what to do !! I'm still waiting for more test results from the second vet. If my cat dies, I will be suing the first vet and Hartz !! Bastards !!
