"Gilliam says giving students more options, including alternative education and career training, has influenced the results."

So they chose to address their dropout problem by making it easier to graduate. Wonderful.

Why can't we just celebrate Fluvanna's accomplishments?

And by the way, I could be wrong, but I don't think GED programs CAN be included, but even if they could, have you seen the GED test lately? It's not an easy pass.

Actually, this person is very right. Some kids in Fluvanna take 3 grades worth of English classes online in one year to graduate. I see it everyday.

Personally, if the person didn't put in the work the first time they took the class, they don't deserve to walk when the rest of their age walks.

"the school board will talk about expanding the facilities for career and technology programs."

Why on earth are they talking about expanding when they cannot even afford what they've got right now????

Seriously, If a kid does the work, learns the material and passes the state's test why would you not want them to graduate? Having fewer drop outs in your county seems like a good thing. The requirements are the same to graduate regardless of how you do it. In the future I'd bet more than half the kids will get the majority of their credits on line somehow, either as home schooled students or through public education. If it's effective and costs less, it sounds like the dream of everyone.

Typical of Fluvanna teachers. They cant seem to be first at anything. I can only imagine the overpaid teachers in their new taj majal teachers lounge chanting "were number six, were number six!"

I guess even the biggest losers get a trophy in Fluvanna!
