The December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut has turned the topic of school safety into a daily discussion.

Shouldn't we DEMAND that any and all teachers that wish to be armed be allowed to do so? Let's act like we have some darn SENSE for a change instead of the same old arguments that guns are somehow 'evil'. It's PEOPLE that are evil. Before you jump in here and say something stupid, close your eyes and THINK REALLY HARD about what I'm saying. Picture a grown person saving your kids life by stopping an attacker before he can kill multiple (if any) times.

You can't compete with a nut with an assault weapon that has an oversized clip.
The advantage of surprise heavily favors the nut. All you'll have with a gun in the school is a false sense of security and imaginary protection. If someone is hell bent on killing, they will kill...maybe just not you.
The only way kids would be safe is via a closed delivery system : bus backs up to building, kids exit from bus directly into building, doors close, bus leaves. Reverse happens on exit. No kid ever steps outside of the school.
Entrance into school is compartmentalized - a reception room, then a waiting room
Wait, I just described how a prison works.
Ok, build schools with security protocol like prisons. Problem solved.
Or home school - then you can reduce exposure and be armed to the teeth 24/7.

What a waste of time and effort! Nothing needs to be done as according to the United States Weather Service, an average of 54 people are killed by lightning every year. How much time, effort, and money do parents devote to preventing their children from being struck by lightning? The fact is that an American is seven times more likely to be killed by lightning than to die in a school spree shooting.

....and in homes with guns, it is 43 times more likely that gun will be used on a family member rather than an intruder. So if teachers and staff carry guns, they will be carried openly, on their persons, so that they can be ready to use. So what happens when a student gets the gun from the teacher and starts shooting? Why not go all the way and put bars on the windows, make the school impenetrable and also never let them go outside? Snipers can hide easily outside. There is no way armed guards are going to be put in every school. You'd have to put many more than one, because one person cannot be everywhere. Law enforcement itself says that is too expensive, i.e. millions of extra dollars. No one wants to pay more taxes to support that.
