Enough with the stupid comments; say something intelligent if you have to fill space with words.

I have no idea if he's innocent or guilty, but do wonder why it took so long for the victim to come forward. Rather odd

It seems the alleged victim waited 2 weeks to file charges. This makes it likely that there is no physical evidence. I predict he will be found not guilty, but some people will always have thier doubts, and his career will suffer as a result. I know him personally and have a very difficult time believing that he would do something like that. A real shame all around.

You know if you have never been a victim in sexual abuse you should keep your mouth shut. If this guy is guilty you have NO IDEA how the victim feels trust me its not something you can just go blabbing to the whole world when it happens. If he is not guilty then I do agree why mess up someones life like that. On the other hand if he is guilty than look what he has done to the victims life. Being sexually abused is a pain you carrie for the rest of your life not something soap and water can ever wash off.

I have known Chris for several years and seen him in hundreds of situations. I have not agreed with him often, and have actually found him a bit obnoxious at times. But I have never found him to be violent, ever. Smug, highly intelligent, and a deep love of his community, yes, but not violent. I certainly hope he is not the true victim here. It seems everything he has worked for has already been lost, even if he is innocent. God Bless all involved.

Do something like what? Anal sex with a willing partner or anal sex with an unwilling partner?

At the end of the day this will turn into a his word versus hers. He will likely not be charged due to lack of evidence. Chris' side will probably argue that the woman consented and her side will of course argue that it was not. Regardless of the verdict, I'm sure his political career is down the drain. Chris will probably put on a good show since he is a politician and those guys can talk their way around just about anything. Should be about as interesting as the recent presidential debates.

Well:

why would anal sex with a willing partner, male or female, be a crime- or anyone's business? It is irrelevant, and if the charge is false, it's probably exactly the kind of disrespectful converstation it was designed to inspire. I know the man, and I believe in my heart that he is not capable of sexual violence of any kind. I'm happy to let the facts come out in court and have him punished if found guilty, but I think it's a shame that if he is found innocent his reputation is forever hurt. As a victim of sexual violence, I believe that false accusations do a lot of harm to future victims, and I think the possibility should be taken seriously and we should withhold judgement until the facts work thier way through court.

That isn't really a very long time to pass between the incident and the arrest. Maybe they waited for the results of forensic testing to come back before they officially charged him?

there was 12 days between the date of the incident and the date she reported it. Almost 2 weeks before you "report" something like that seems like a long time to me.

As to evidence, obviously enough was presented to convince the police and a judge to issue the arrest warrant.
The police have no authority to issue an arrest warrant of this type. The police go to a magistrate and ask that the warrant be issued, or the evidence is presented to a Grand Jury for a direct indictment. It's very seldom that a judge issues a warrant in this area, magistrates issue almost every warrant in this area. The magistrate most likely issued the warrant for Dumler.

The down side of this entire process is the fact that it takes very little in the Commonwealth of Virginia to have a magistrate issue a warrant. In this particular case all that is needed to obtain a warrant is a statement from the alleged victim that the sodomy took place without her consent and against her will. It's not a very good system at all. But there's also not a very good solution to the problem as well.

This simply is not true. Especially 2 weeks after the event took place.

They had to appoint a special prosecutor from another county because the alleged perpetrator practiced law in Albemarle County and is a county supervisor; it would be impossible to avoid the assumption of bias. The special prosecutor was just appointed yesterday, and had less than 24 hours to prepare for the bond hearing.

I do not find it odd that a victim would wait a couple of weeks before reporting an attack like this. In fact, there is no statute of limitation for rape in Virginia specifically because it can take time - sometimes even years - for a victim to gather the courage to file a complaint. It is just as wrong to "assume" that the victim is making up the attack out of spite or in an attempt to damage Dumler's political career as it is to "assume" that Dumler is guilty. How about we all await the outcome of the proceedings?

There are several comments here from people claiming to know Dumler who are convinced that he could not be possible of a crime like this...I do not know him and am not involved in this at all, but I have known two men in my life who were convicted of rape and I never would have believed either of them were capable of it. It would be comforting to believe that we could "know" when someone is capable of this kind of violence, but the truth is, we cannot. Often such criminals are surrounded by people who are horrified and astonished when they learn the truth ...

Uhh, this guy is so much a part of the so called legal system that he looks smug and somewhat arrogant on his mug photo. And second of all, who in the heck is going to be brave enough to go against one of the top lawyers in Charlottesville who has enough friends in the system to look like a cocky sob in a mug shot accusing him of sex crimes. Sorry, this guy looks agressive and unapologetic just from a mug picture not scared or even angry. And they have to have evidence to have put him in there (bruises, rape kit, or tears). I'm willing to bet she didn't have fun and would not have liked to go through such a tramatic proccess against such a powerful guy around a small town. But you are right about one thing, he will most likely have a chance of "proving" himself not guilty through our law system. We are quickly becoming the the land of Kings and Queens among peasants.
Convicted by his picture which was taken in the middle of the night? Top Lawyer in Cville? Chris really doesnt practice law as he gives most his time to the county as supervisor at $15k per year and as a Jag officer, a position he will mostly likely be discharged from. No one knows the facts here. As uninformed as you are, you may want to keep your opinions to yourself.

So true. An arrest is easy to cause.

There have been many cases where women swore out warrants against men who were lottery winners claiming that "the lottery winner is the father of "mah deah baby". Then in court in turns out that the guy had a vasectomy ten years before the kid was conceived, never knew the fast buck female, etc.

In many ways the law is like the lottery in that anything can happen..........

Why take such a low paying job unless you liked the power and already had your expensive law school tuition paid for? Do you know what else is considered a power issue? Rape.

Ok so what I want to know is why did Cynthia Neff have to come to his aide? Does he not have ANY family (parents grandparents uncles etc) that might be willing to vouch for him? Yes innocent until proven guilty however this just seems strange to me.
