For those of us who watch too much TV, sounds like a murder now.... with the main suspect leaving town.

I was waiting for the fact that the missing teen is transgendered to make it to the news report.(The teen is a friend of a friend) I hope this information does not get in the way of efforts to solve this mystery, and I hope that the community can keep their personal beliefs/opinions to themselves. What matters here is that authorities get to the bottom of this, and hopefully bring everyone home safely.

Obviously the missing teen was planning to leave town without telling anyone. Why?
Then seems like they changed their minds...realized missing person report was out, and they both skipped town. Again, why?
I believe they are both alive, and hiding. I've read too many FB comments of people stating they know where he is.
Finally...WHY HAS THE FAMILY NOT DONE A SEARCH PARTY? If you lose your keys/phone don't you search for them, not report them missing and post fliers and hope they magically appear, or someone finds them for you, and complain other people aren't helping...you look for them yourself.
This is not about race/sexuality. People have asked about search parties, you comment it's a good idea, yet you hold a candle vigle instead of rounding up these people to search. If the family doesn't do everything they can and seriously search for this kid, nobody will see this as a serious missing person case....hence the reason for all the doubt that he's missing, not just hiding.

I'm disgusted with the comments I'm reading. It doesn't matter what gender this person identifies as. Someone is missing. If it was your child, I'm sure you wouldn't want someone making these types of comments. Put yourselves in the shoes of the family members and loved ones of this person. You have no idea what they have done. You have no idea what they are going through. What is wrong with you?

Rusty, you mean repercussions, not reproductions. Since in 2012 you still think homosexuality is a choice, and not genetic, I'm assuming your mistake was due to lack of education, not intentional.

Cell phones have GPS. I'm guessing the cops could locate the missing teen that way. They are also probably monitoring credit card activity.

Gay, Lesbian, and Gender-Variant/Transgender Youth are a very large proportion of homeless youth, perhaps 20% to 25% of all homeless youth, while LGBT youth are likely only be 3-5% of all youth. Youth runaway for many reasons. We do not know if this youth ran away.

Youth of all descriptions are sexually victimized and trafficked in astonishing numbers, including LGBT youth. Youth are easily trusting of adults who seem to 'like' them, or who 'promise' them things (a job, a new home, travel, a shopping trip, or something simple - a new pair of shoes, a meal at a restaurant, etc). Transgender youth are particularly victimized when some adult 'accepts' them in their chosen gender. Once in the grip of a predator a youth can easily be taken and victimized.

It is sad to read comments here referring to Silence of the Lambs, etc out of context. But, it it true that there are sexual predators who take youth (and adults). As in that movie, many of the victims are Women. Boys and Men are also victimized. LGBT youth (and adults)- and particularly Trans Women - are particularly victimized and abused by targeted for hate abuse/crimes bias criminals: people who hate LGBT - often from religious beliefs (however evil and variant from Jesus' words or Mohammed's life, etc).

It is sad to see comments here that appear to belittle the facts of child sexual abuse and victimization, abduction and trafficking. And, sad to see comments here that appear to justify any sort of abuse, victimization, abduction, trafficking, and murder.

Again....has the family/friends of these 'missing' people set up a search party?

My cat was missing after less than 24 hours...within a day, not only had I printed out fliers, emailed all surrounding shelters, posted on craigslist/missing pet websites, but I searched my entire town, including wooded areas. I found him in less than a week. But, I searched with my husband/kids and even got the neighborhood kids to help every day.

These are people, and it's been over a week. How do you not search harder for a missing person than a missing cat? People leave behind some kind of clue or someone has even the smallest information...my cat left no clue or 'last person that saw where he was headed.'

Who knows where these people could be by now...especially if they have means of transportation. Obviously we know for sure one took off and is hiding...from what, we don't know. They aren't going to just show up from prayers and fliers....you need to actually search for them.

He doesn't look like the sketch they released.

News says they were planning to meet at Amway station....mother had been trying to call before Thanksgiving with no answer. So, the family had no idea he was planning on leaving.
Sounds like this kid was leaving to hide/run from something or someone...that part we don't know, but you can piece it together that this Erik guy was going with him.
The news says Erik says he never showed up....now either this is trueand something happened (we hope this isn't the case)...or they had a change in their plans.
Then, police say they believe this Erik left town. What leads them to believe this? Did they go back for questioning, and is he wanted by police now? Says police said no foul play so they can't issue warrants. Any missing person case I've read about/seen on the news, police would be searching for person of interest.
So, do the police believe he is a suspect, or do they think these two left town together? Has anyone searched the Amway station where they were supposed to meet? Did he tell police why they were meeting there?
Either this guy is a suspect and fled town, or he left with Dashad to run/hide from whatever they were leaving town for in the first place. Someone posted on his missing person facebook they had seen him the night before and he had just got into a fight...why hasn't this been followed up on? Who was he fighting, and who were the 3 guys this girl claims he was with?
Then there's the post of some girl Ridelli or something knowing where he is. Why again, has this not been reported and followed up on?
And, again, lastly, if the family is so worried why haven't they formed a search party? It makes no sense at all. They seemed more concerned about what people say about this kid, and getting the word out, and about what newspapers/police are/aren't doing, than actually searching for him.
You know his last know location, where he was supposed to meet 'person of interest' people telling you they know where he is....follow up and search for him.
Someone that wants to hide, or someone who has committed a crime, isn't going to be on facebook or out in public where you can see them. If something happened to Dashad, again, you won't find him on facebook, a newspaper or down the block in plain view for you to find.

Says family may be doing a search Saturday...why not today or last week? They already had a candle light vigil and have another planned....you have those after you have exhausted all search efforts without any luck.
When your child goes missing you search that day, not two weeks later. Police aren't going to take this seriously if the family doesn't.
Seems to an outsider that the family either knows where he is, or what he left town for. As a parent, I cannot believe they didn't gather all their Facebook friends and start a search. That is why this comes across as a person that skipped town, not an abduction. I would search every minute of my life until I found my child, not worry about what people are saying about them.
The family complains the Harrington's got more media/police help...because they searched for their child immediately. If you want to compare your missing person story to theirs, then actually search for your child like they did, and report every single tip you get. Someone says they know where your child is...have you told police or followed up?
Something is definitely off with this story....even parents that were the one's involved in their child's disappearance formed search parties to 'look' for their child....this just doesn't seem like a true missing person case.

If this story ends badly, I'm sure we'll hear how the media/police/community failed this kid because of his race/sexuality, when it is the family/friends who have failed him by not actively searching for him.
Sorry to keep ranting, I just don't understand why they haven't physically searched for him. Maybe instead of commenting back about insults written, they'd like to reply to this:
WHY HAVE YOU NOT FORMED A SEARCH PARTY TO LOOK FOR THIS KID? WHY WAIT SO LONG?

The Amtrak station is right at the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant...they didn't have to be leaving town.

Anyway, someone is missing their child. I pray that he is found/returns safely to his family and friends.

Continuing to pray for his safe return!

Says they were meeting at the Amway Station...not Buffalo Wild Wings and not at the Amway to go to Buffalo Wild Wings (that wouldn't even make sense).
Has anyone contacted Amway to see if they have seen either one? That would be the best way to start.
Pray for his safe return, but it seems this kid doesn't want to be found.

What in the world tells you there's no search party? Do you even know these people? It's on the news every day and all over Facebook, and obviously police are investigating. Do you expect people to go house to house and search indoors? With warrants, or what? We're talking about downtown, not the woods. You keep locking your caps and repeating the same thing over and over, but I see no evidence that people aren't searching. Maybe you should unlock your caps and go help.

It was on the Find Dashad facebook page....they've stated no search party yet 2 days ago....stated today some people were going to look by Amway at 1 today but not an official search party.
As I said..he's missing...he's not going to be hanging out downtown. As history has shown....if harm has come to them...and I pray it hasn't ...bodies are found in wooded areas most of the time.
Lastly...I am in Michigan...this story has reached my facebook page. Many of my friends are posting about him. After a family here waited two weeks to search for a woman 45 mins from my home, they found her body yesterday only because the family gave out the last person she had contact with to the police and the police went to the man's house. Upon arrival the man committed suicide and her body was found across the street in a wooded area.
That is why I wonder why wait to start a search party? This type of thing happens within the first 48 hours of someone being missing...check police statistics. I am in noway putting down the family...just trying to understand why you wouldn't search areas that aren't public. Morgan Harrington was found in a wooded area on a farm nowhere near the last place she was seen.
