I understand the authorities are investigating but as a parent, I'm riddled with anxiety and will not be sending him to school on Friday. Though, probably an over reaction, at least I know my son will be absolutely safe in our house.

Everything will be fine of course, but there's nothing wrong with starting your holiday a day sooner and a little less worried.

You have never dreamed of this yet you send your child to the most undefended part of this country everyday i.e. school. It is time for a change in this country and we have two choices; the first is go-ahead and only allow the criminals the ability to defend themselves from an unarmed populous. Or two put defensive measures in our schools and I do not necessarily mean fire arms since there are many options. If we allow our cow toweling politicians to invoke gun control laws the gun control law breaking criminals will still have guns. Remember the definition of a criminal is some one who breaks the law. If we decide to improve the defenses of our school with measures to delay and hamper the access of the social miss fits sufficiently for students and teachers to carry out safety measures and sufficiently long enough for law enforcement to arrive then we will have the opportunity to dream of other more meaningful things. So express that to your represinitves!

If these new rumors involve threats of guns and school violence, the parents have a right to know. And they should be told immediately.

I'm glad to know that they have resource officers and are being proactive with patrols. I'm sure hoping that it's just someone with a sick sense of humor trying to leverage public anxiety (and that they're punished accordingly). I would love to see all schools everywhere have a dedicated school resource officer or three... preferably plain-clothed in the case of a monster that's in planning. Taxpayers would be up for it now, but once things settle down they'll just gripe about the expense even though the expense is phenomenally worth it. I know I would feel better with my kids going to school.

Albemarle High School was rumored that there will be a shooting on friday. My daugher is an Albemarle Student and was told this by a fellow class mate when she was in school today and reported this to the prinicipal and I also did a follow up call to confirm all of this. I agree, my daugher is not going to school on friday either, she is afraid and has called me all day over this. Very distrubing information and the school should have notified the parents and this has not happened, usually a phone call will go out mass spread along with email if you are set up to receive this information.

More like the retarded one. Pretty soon daycare employees, post office employees, Subway sandwich makers and the burger flippers will carry because someone called in a bomb threat or yelled at them for not putting enough lettuce in their sammich. Wait till one of them finds a dollar short in their paycheck. Please explain this to me like I am a two year old. Why does a civilian need to have an assault rifle or any firearm with a magazine capacity of more than 7? Here is what we need to do . Y'all can keep your firearms. We should just stop selling ammo made for assault rifles and as such. How about that? Problem solved. wise one wrote: <quoted text> You have never dreamed of this yet you send your child to the most undefended part of this country everyday i.e. school. Time to pull the police away from the Capitol and the secret service away from the 'messiah' and put them where they REALLY belong -- protecting the most innocent of America's citizens -- her children!! Put armed officers at every door of every school. The politicians certainly aren't worth the effort anymore ...

I am tired of hearing about banning assault rifles when someone has absolutely no idea what one is. You may not like guns that is your choice. You may not believe in god that is also your choice. However when someone breaks down your door and/or threatens your life with a gun. The first thing you will do is call someone with a gun and pray they get there in time.

If the schools would stop telling the kids that it is abuse if the parents correct them, we would no longer have these problems. Correction and abuse or two different things. You better believe my child know's better then to say anything like that. I have made it clear that he is to defend him self if he needs to but he won't be the bully to anyone.

I consider any weapon that can accommodate more than 7 bullets in a magazine an assault weapon. You don't have a need to go on a shooting spree. If someone breaks in, one shot off my .45 will do the trick. I don't need to pray and spray. You don't either. Citizen_21 wrote: <quoted text> Please explain to me what an assault rifle is?? Can I get some more peanuts? It is lunch time. C'mon fools. Does anyone want to speak up defending assault weapons or the need to have a 30 round mag?? I made my point. You haven't made yours. Agree more communciation should be shared by authorities to all surrounding schools on this. Is this a result of a fight between certain kids at AHS or more? Hopefully police presence is close by all of our schools now. I agree that there should be dedicated security personnel at all schools.

You haven't made yours. <quoted text> Sure I'll take a stab at it,First of all the only weapon that is acually called an assault rifle are the ones used by the military, they are fully automatic firing weapons. Just because these weapons look like the military versions does not mean they are the same.Would you be okay with these type of guns if they only fired 7 rounds like your 45?

Yes! It levels the playing field. The good guy is not out there with a 30 mag weapon. So if they good guy runs into a bad guy sporting a semi-auto assault high power whatever, the odds are even. It also increases the chance of the bad guy being taken out when switching mags, more chance of a mis load when reloading..etc etc....call it a fairly tale... but its the reality..So in essence, level of casualty could be lower.
