Will he be charged with a traffic violation? My guess is no.. I'll be surprised if it happens. Bicycles in this town are above the law.

I'm willing to bet he was trying to pass the bus on the right and didn't quite make it.

I have had too many close calls with bicyclists in that area. They dart through and around traffic as if the cars and trucks can stop on a dime or even guess where they are going. Please charge the cyclist with a crime. Require liability insurance to operate a bike on a public roadway.

Between the bicyclists & pedestrians in this town (primarily in the UVA area) darting out in traffic the way they do without EVER looking, it's a wonder we don't have a fatality a week around here.

Fellow bicyclists--this is the kind of stupid, dangerous behavior that makes everybody on the road hate us. FOLLOW. THE. RULES. Obey traffic lights and stop signs, don't pass on the right, and use your bloody hand signals. It's not that hard. DO IT.

The bus driver is being treated for whiplash, and has already contacted Marks and Harrison.

Well, no. They hate us because they don't think we belong there. Everything else is just rationalizing it.

The rest of your advice is reasonable.

this is just crazy.... one afternoon was in a parking lot driving my car, put on the brakes to watch this girl walk right into my car because she could not take her nose out of the cell phone..... then at 5am there is people jogging in the road, no care about anyone seeing them. There is a group of 30-40 people that jog every Weds around north grounds/Darden, these people are all over the road not care or respect that they are going to cause an accident one morning...... people dont use any caution at all these days.... top 2 lessons we were taught growing up.. follow traffic while riding your bike and use the sidewalk when possiable....

It's not a matter of liking or disliking - it's a matter of every single person in this city and county have seen you repeatedly risk your lives and lives of others. Bike safetly and smart and in areas that are respectable for biking.

Unfortunately nothing will change untill someone important ends up road kill. One guy got killed on Main a few years back but it was determined it was his fault. The cops around here are doing I don't know what about anything.

Well almost nothing you said here makes much sense (meaning it has no clear meaning) What would you suggest the "cops" do about reckless people on bikes? Or are you of the agreement that they do nothing because bikers in Cville and the surrounding counties are untouchable (except by metal and fiberglass of vehicles)?

Nothing thinking free says makes much sense, just to fill you in on that. Bikes and people at UVA are trained to think they are above the law. Just ride and look at the people on scooters, lacrosse helmet if any, driving like they stole something. People texting and walking out into the road. Bikes, well what don't hey do, run stop signs, cross at crosswalks, weave in and out of traffic.ect. No one punishes them, and the works are told you hit one no matter if it is your fault or not, you will lose your job. Only college students can be 18 + years old, and still considered kids, hilarious!
