My biggest environmental concern is that people who live on this end of town have to burn a pile of gas to get to adequate services and shopping.

Always the alterior motive. Who owns this land and who is trying to develope it? Money money money. Of course current property owners want to protect the value of their homes too.

Spare no effort to the end of sacrificing the environment on the altar of Capitalism, to its deity, Almighty Gold.

Ah, the classic NiMBY. "Well, we want [insert proposal here], but we also want our [insert interest* here] protected."

*interests can include: property/property value, quality of living, scenic view, quiet neighborhood street(s), way of life, freedom to run pyramid schemes out of our basements, etc.

Try living down 5th street. The food lion is awful! IN fact, there is no good shopping anywhere within a 3-4 mile radius of this area. Bring the Wegmans in and bring it now!

We will all still be living in caves still if this population were around back then.

If C'ville doesn't want another mall then we'll gladly take it!

Oh its tuff, one need only look back at how Wendell Wood and his buddy Hurt destroyed the 29N corridor all in the name of progress. If you visit other areas in other states you will find that developers here get away with murder. It goes all the way up the ladder to those who are trying to block the bypass.

You know who destroyed the 29 corridor? The idiots who keep trying to block a BYPASS around it. Every other town up and down 29 has a bypass, but nooooo, not Charlottesville. Let's route all the traffic between Lynchburg and DC straight through town... yeah, that's a great idea. These are the same kind of people who hold up progress on projects like the Meadow Creek Parkway and this 5th street project. Oddly enough, they call themselves "progressives". Let's progress right back to the stone ages...

The clientel is the problem, not the store. It's gonna be an uphill battle to preserve the appeal of Wegmans in that area.

I know this state like the back of my hand as it pertains to developers and the various commercial projects that I have followed from the concept phase through it's completion. I also have first hand knowledge of what the housing values were before and after those projects. So tell me this; what exactly are you accusing Mr. Wood and Mr. Hurt of destroying along the 29N corridor?

I think the 29 corridor is pretty well planned and executed. The ARB even though they are a pain in the acees, has kept our town looking pretty decent compared to what's out there. I been out there. I knowz it.
