"We selected the Ford utility as the police car due to the fact that it has electronic stability control and all-wheel drive.

All that testing and they didn't figure out the Taurus comes with the SAME MOTOR , elctronic stability control and AWD.

Put the Ford Utility and the APD best driver against the ROOKIE at APD on Virginia International Raceway in the Taurus and my money is on the UTILITY being on its roof in the first lap trying to catch that rookie in the Taurus.

BUT.... I would have justified the purchase on TERRAIN & Weather in our area. All things considered we have FEW high speed persuits. EVERY day officers in this area deal with weather or terrain.

After listening to that guy speak on camera I can understand why Albemarle has to pay for a $100,000 a year press spokespersons!

Give these guys and gals whatever they need to keep us safe. They risk their lives every time they stop a car or make an arrest. Shame on anyone who puts them down with ignorant hurtful remarks!!

Sex on the job, stealing money, writing victims tickets who were in a WHEEL CHAIR in a cross walk who were hit by a cop on duty texting and driving in a cop car.... exactly how much else do you want them to take? And while the remarks might be hurtful in your opinion, they certainly are not ignorant as they are the truth.

If they dont like the dangers of the work perhaps they should try a different career. I think the adrenaline rush of that type of work is why many of them do it, we shouldnt have to pay extra for it...they already have the job they want because it is dangerous.

Funny, I was just watching the old "Mad Max" movies with Mel Gibson New Years night, and
Interceptor was the name of his car.

I read about these when Ford first introduced them. They seem like a really great, well-thought-out product line, and they are cross-compatible with most of the accessories and some of the parts for the old Crown Vics. I am looking forward to seeing them going around town.

Every single time a story get's posted on here about any public safety topic, be it police, fire, or rescue, you people just complain and make snarky comments about it.

YOU go pull over a car full of thugs with tinted windows, YOU go crawl into a burning building, YOU go stand on an icy roadway during an extrication with cars buzzing past you with no regard.

All you people do is complain, this community is the biggest group of ungrateful jerks I've ever seen. Furserious and Farmers, you would burst into tears if you had to deal with an ounce of the stress that any of these people do on a daily basis. Go back to Burger King.

Since you're concerned about the truth, the county didn't write the ticket to the wheelchair guy. I'm not going to defend a litany of mistakes but they've all been dealt with and dwelling on them merely distracts from more relevant issues.

OH and "Furserious", the wheelchair incident was Charlottesville PD. That's a different organization than ACPD and I suggest you fact check before opening your mouth and let the big kids talk.

WE complain cause we expect better from cops and don't get it, not by a long shot. Sure there are good cops out there but the ones who make all the otheres look bad are slapped on the wrist and put back on the street. Its called no integrity, from the top down.

I completely disagree. People see a story on 29 or 19 about some new cop scandal and just automatically think they know what's going on. A lot of that stuff is handled internally and you don't know what ends up happening. People were fired for the sex incident. The police department doesn't just go apesh*t and do crazy stuff, they're held accountable by the BOS and other county administrators. Every single purchase, decision, policy, etc. is reviewed thoroughly. Always.

This goes out to all the people who get on here and whine and moan and complain about our local law enforcement, firefighters, emt's, the whole group. All your complaining solves ABSOLUTELY nothing. Yet, you still get on here and make yourselves look like crying little babies everytime somebody does something that you don't like. You must think a lot of yourselves, dont you? Next time you don't like somebody getting something new, tell it to your mother, who you probably still live with. My goodness people! These folks have jobs to do, and I'm sure if you were having to sit in a car for 9-12 hours a day you would want to be comfortable too for the duration of it. Just because there are a few bad apples (like there are in YOUR jobs too), you find it necessary to bash them every single time something good happens for them. Not to mention that your whiney selves are the reason they are even working...they are called PUBLIC SERVANTS for crying out loud.
