RICO! You gotta be kiddin'. This isn't a Tony Soprano operation. Give him a slap on the wrist, stop wasting the taxpayer's money and move on.

RICO? Are you kidding me? For possible evasion of some $16 fees? Doesn't trying this under RICO make Van Der Linde eligible for some heavy time in federal prison? I think the world has turned upside down.

Any politician who supports this, vote them out. This is crazy. My guess, the higher ups who support this suit, will not be welcome anymore in this town. What goes around comes around you know.

If the Republican party needed a clear example of liberal Democratic opposition to free enterprise, RSWA has set an example for all to see. Peter van der Linde is an brilliant and innovative businessman, this kind of dispute can be negotiated or handled as a civil matter, but RICO? I am guessing he refused to make contributions to democratic candidates, and that this is a politically motivated malicious prosecution.

It just so happens that the "star" witness for the prosecution is a multiple convicted felon whom happens to be under arrest for extortion of Peter VanDer Linde. He tried to get Peter to pay him 90K to shut up. How the city and the county are mixed up with the RSWA is really beyond comprehension. There is definitely the smell of **** in the air when several current and prior county and city sups/councilors are now current RSWA board members, how much are they being paid? EVERYONE of them needs to go!!!

NO, observer, he can't go to prison as the result of a CIVIL RICO proceeding. He is not charged as a criminal defendant.

The matter is not about $16, but a $16 alleged underpayment that went on for a long time amounting to an alleged $1,000,000 +/-.

(although if he stole $100 with a gun instead of allegedly stealing $1,000,000 with a fib or omission, he could get a good deal of time).

"The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority claims that between 2006 and 2007, people dropping off trash for Van Der Linde RSWA's Zion Crossroads Transfer Station lied about where it came from to avoid paying a $16.00 fee. Now, these supporters want the RSWA's lawsuit dropped."

Which PEOPLE? You mean van der Linde truck drivers?

Also, your grammar suggests van der Linde owned or operated the RSWA trandfer station?

Do you mean at the Repulic Allied (formerly Allied Waste) transfer station under contract with the RSWA?

Geez, NBC29, at least get the facts and grammar correct.

And who, pray tell, is the vermin responsible for this gross miscarriage of the law. Mr Tom Frederick. He alone has cost customers and taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars with absolutely nothing to show for it. He along with the RWSA have displayed not only incompetence but a total lack of professionalism dealing in the public interest. Their boards own chair, Mr Gafney, is a popular contractor in this area. If that doesn't smack of conflict of interest what does. Then to try and get rid of a competitive operator by these means is a travesty. If I was Being persecuted by this bunch thieves I'd be looking at off shore banking accounts at the least. RWSA stinks of corruption or at least mismanagement. If Mr V can put these guys out of business we'd all be better off.

Well, at least if he defrauded the RSWA as alleged, he didn't go buy a Lear Jet or yacht or Prevost. He built a recycling center.

If the allegations of the RSWA are true, doctors should get a free pass on insurance fruad as long as its under $2,000,000. Doctors do good, they save lives. Recyclers do good. They save resources. FREE PASS TO ALL DO-GOODERS!

BTW if van der Linde is recycling as much as he claims, we have a new world record, right here in Fluvanna County. Mr. van der Linde stated on WINA that household garbage will be burned in Harrisonsburg at JMU. That is not recycling! It may be a productive re-use, but not recycling. Waste-to-energy is inherently inefficient, and does nothing to encourage recycling or minimization of waste.

Burning is not recognized as recycling by the Us Green Building Council as it pertains toward Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in constructin standards.

I worked for many years with Peter van der Linde and represented him on many new homes he built as a local builder. I can tell you that I have the utmost respect for Peter and I will welcome any business venture he so chooses.
