I don't think this an attack on Monson's family at all. The issue here is the city market managers failing to conduct due diligence about GH being a franchise and GH taking a vendor spot that could be used for a truly local farmer or baker. Monson's attitude can certainly use some work too.

Matt Monson's unnecessary use of hyperbole is rather insulting to the individuals who have been discussing this topic with intelligence and objectivity. "Attack" is so outside the realm of what's actually happened during this alleged controversy. I'd hate to see Mr. Monson's reaction to true adversity if he takes such issue with civil discourse.

Great Harvest is a franchise. It's not a smear to call it what it is or to question its place at a local farmers' market.

I don't know where Mr. Monson received his sense of entitlement, but it's extremely off-putting.

"Slinging mud anonymously in an online thread is pretty tacky." I agree with this wholeheartedly, Kaitlin! But, um, pot calling kettle?

I find it interesting that in all the press this bakery has received, and all the "we're local, we're green" hoopla, no one ever reported that they are indeed a franchise operation. They may source locally as much as possible, but they are also backed by corporate support, so they are giving a false impression in promoting themselves as a local, mom-and-pop business.

I believe the Market should be for the local mom-and-pop growers and producers. No matter how well-meaning Great Harvest may be, they do not meet this criteria.
