I don't think that people paying for water understand that this is NOT water that will add to the water supply if you are a city resident. That right was given away in the agreement signed with the county.

Why would ratepayers pay millions to dredge for water that they will not have access to for water supply ?

I voted NO to using our ratepayer money for dredging

Wrong Sue, read the agreements. This is water that will be added to the water supply if you are a City resident. Cost sharing for dredging is 50/50 for Albemarle and the City so the City gets the same amount Albemarle does and shares the cost. So of the $3.5 million spent the City pays half,$1.75 million, and gets half of the increased supply.

Sorry Pat you are the one who is wrong. The city did sign an agreement that gives them no credit for water from dredging. So I say, NO way should city residents pay for this.

I was very much a proponent of dredging South Fork -- AS AN ALTERNATIVE to the unnecessary big new dam that is destroying more than 200 acres of hardwood forest at Ragged Mountain. Remeber, too, that this big new dam will only be able to fill reliably when RWSA builds a massive 9.5 mile uphill pipeline to pump water from South Fork to Ragged Mountain.

Sue is correct. The agreement that the previous city council ageed to (on a 3-2 vote) does include an agreement to shae the cost of dredging, but DOES NOT ALLOW the City to get credit for any of the water that is freed up by dredging. Water ratepayers get nothing for dredging. The only folks who benefit from dredging are the property owners around the reservoirs and rowers.

Why not renegotiate that part of the agreement to share the costs? Or is that just a non-starter?

Why doesn't the media report on the fact that the city is being asked to pay half the price for dredging but gets no water for their money ?

That would be a story !

Because it is not true, silly. Read the agreements. Apparently they have, how about yourself?

Read the agreements "thinking deficit" then post where I am wrong. I don't think I will hear from you again on the subject because that would be too much work for you. So I guess when you don't respond with anything substantive, that would be further proof you don't know what you are talking about and could care less.
