I heard a cop tell a woman, "maam, either you can control your son now, or in a few years I will handle him, and I wont be nearly as nice as you will be." It stuck in my mind, and over the years, I have come to see that it is true.

Love the post people. I thank my Dad and my Mom for the belt, spoon, and what ever they could get there hands on, 43 today and my 3 kids know not to
brake the rules. Very simple. No government control in my house. I am the government in my house. Keep up the good work people. Your kids will respect others. God Bless.

I think alot of people have summed it up over and over!!! What do you do with unruly children? I think a spanking is in order alot of times But as ask so many times before who's house was it? I bet granny's house!!! But one thing nobody ask if this mother was so concerned why was she not combing her child's hair???? This is a sad world we are living in there is no discipline at all, You say that the ones who got spanked are the ones in prison I think someone had better do a recount these prisons are being filled more and more every day does any one not notice 20 years ago there was less crime?? Does this not tell us something , When I grew up and am now above the 50 mark if you got a spanking so what! There were no gangs no drug dealers no guns at school . Wonder why? Could it be you knew you would get your **** tore up? I promise you that my parents did not fear dss nor police and if they would have gotten involved in this spanking thing they might have gotten a switching too, And in any event they would surely have just let these do good people take the responsibility for you and your actions instead of them, Just yesterday when a child was killed and 2 more hurt pretty bad people were saying where are the parents HMmmmmm I say they can't be parents someone in dss or law enforcement wants that job!!! GOOD GOING GRANNY spank them if they need it.

Why is this in the paper? Unless your going to give out the name of the mother so we can chastise her, this is a non issue and a waste of public resources.

I think the grandmother was right inwhipping the child, because she undoubtly needed it or the granmother would not have done it. Seems to me the mother needs one when grandma gets out of jail.Im 54 years old and have turned out real good . Thekids around where we live are terrible, They dont respect anyone and the parents are actually afraid to correct them , and then they finally wake up when it too late to find their child in jail , or 6 foot under, and then they wonder what happened, GOOD GOING GRANDMA----Do IT AGAIN

There is nothing wrong with a good ole spanking. Who started this non-spanking crap....Dr. Spock?
We all know there is a difference between a spanking and abuse, so don't act stupid. It's like knowing the speed limit and knowing when you go over it. If you're not a complete idiot, you know the difference. My Mother had 4 sisters. There was only one of them that would ever spank me....would make me pick my own switch or a good ole fly swatter worked on occasion too......but to this day (and she's been deceased for many, many years) she is still my favorite.

And that is EXACTLY what the cop should have told the 25 yr old mother in this article. I walked for a switch once. It sure worked. I never had to make that walk again.

Some children need switching, some don't. I only remember one spanking from my Mother and that was with about a 2 foot piece of rope. But I deserved it for doing what she had just told me not to do. In my teen years when I knew everything had tried the SASS thing those small hands would slap me right in the lips.Put the Sass where it came from. She's gone now and I am so proud of every smack I got. There is abuse and there is disipline. All I say is GO GRANNY, but don't forget to give 25 year old Mommy a slap in the mouth.

Good for Grandma!! The problem with kids today
is there is no discipline! Most parents are
afraid to discipline them for the very reason
of what happened in this situation.

There are other ways to discipline a child without hitting him/her. Violence begets violence. I bet if you asked every inmate if they were spanked as a child, they would say "yes," so what did they learn? Even if you spank your own child, you should never think it is okay for someone else to hit him/her.
OHH PLEASE!! You go sit your kids in the corner somewhere if that works for you but it only gave mine time to plot against me with the next troublesome move. I had my behind whooped less than I should have and I turned out to be a good person.

Let's see, daughter had a kid at 15. So let's talk about what a great parent grandma was then and now for spanking her granddaughter. Nope, doesn't fly.

I'm not against spanking, but it is the PARENT's responsibility and the PARENT who gives permission for anyone else to touch their child especially in discipline matters. Grandparents, aunts and uncles don't just have that right by blood relation. Calling the cops may have been over the top, and may be not. Lord knows the "Fun News" does not always report the full story.

I have seen plenty of instances of "corporeal punishment" that just plain are abusive. And those parents backed up leaving bruises, blood, and broken bones with all the same excuses seen here.

AMEN! That's what's wrong with kids now a days! They need a switch! I got spanked with belts, switches, etc... Sounds like the grandmother should have spanked her daughter more!

Wow, I wonder how I managed to grow up in the South all my life and never gotten hit with a switch? I managed to raise four girls and never hit them either. We must be freaks. I do think it's ridiculous for the mother to have called the police, though. That's not a police matter -- it's simply a "don't hit my daughter with a switch" matter, that's all. And, if she doesn't like the way her mom is treating her daughter, why have the grandmother there in the first place?
Why have the grandmother there? Who said the daughter and grandchild were not at the grandmother's home in the first place? And why was the child's mother not combing the girl's hair instead of the grandmother? Abuse is intolerable, but this certainly doesn't seem to be the problems in this case. What a waste of law enforcement's time and taxpayer's money!

I grew up in the time where a switch was used now it is a crime. Seems to me the times need to be reversed. Kids now days are wild and out of control!

as sad as it is , some kids would probably shoot you if you did that with no remorse. It's way past fixing , anybody that is holding a family together today should be proud.

Maybe if the PARENT would be a PARENT, someone else wouldnt have to do the PARENTING. This child has such a quality parent obviously, that the child may be handled by many people....within the system. PS. You will get to pick up the tab!

Way to go grandma, only thing you did wrong was not whip your daugther after the cops let you go.
Give here a real reason to call the cops.
Kids today are killing parents, peers, teachers, anyone or thang that breathes. Got my but whipped.Deserved all of it and some!!!!!!!!!! I turned out just great!
I was raised by my grandparents because my birth
parents were not responsible! Thank to my Grand(Mama)& Grand (Dad). Gone but never forgotten. Much love to them.
