4-year-old California boy's body found in dryer

Authorities say the body of a missing 4-year-old California boy was found in the clothes dryer of a neighbor's home and a 14-year-old boy from the house in Mendota has been arrested on suspicion of the killing.

Stop blaming God for the choice's made by mortal men/women/"children" . He gave us freedom of choice, just like you would teach your child about choice's. If your "child" were to choose to take someone's life, would you be to blame? I don't think you'd see it that way.

as it turns out i huess the 14 year old boy used to like to kill little small animals all the time. So there has to be some thing wrong with his head. May the baby rest in peace.

Jeffery Dahmer tortured and killed animals. That was his beginning. This is such a sad and horrific death. The human mind and sole is capable of so much good and wonderful things and the there is the totally dark side for some. Manson, Hitler many such sick individuals have yet to be totally understood for their psychotic deeds and then there is this young 14yr. old. I have and still am horrified at the thought of those who participated and carried out Hitler"s orders. Even though the same kindof evil mentality was carried out daily by Sadam Hussein's followers and Hitler and Hussein and many dictaotrs share the same legacy as of the destruction of human beings. Is Dahmer the only one who gave clues when he was young of how truly disturbed some can be. As in this young 14yr. old you said he had killed animals did anyone think to get him help and if they did could that have stopped what he had done to this little innocent child. I work with children on a daily basis and I also have grandchildren that I love so dearly and this breaks my heart and my soul.
I hope someday peace comes for the mother and father of this little guy. Just baffeling.

Comments (3) Recommend (10)4:10 p.m.: The 4-year-old Mendota boy who disappeared Friday was drowned and placed in a neighbor's dryer before a search for the child had even begun, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said today.

Sheriff Margaret Mims said Alex Christopher Mercado was playing outside his Tuft Street home Friday when a 14-year-old neighbor boy brought him into the neighbor's home and killed him. The teenager placed the child in the dryer, which was screened by a door, Mims said. The teenager, whose name has not been released, has been arrested in connection with the child's death.

Mims declined to say why the child was killed. She said investigators have suspicions about motives, and those suspicions will be spelled out when charges are filed. Mims said investigators will present their case to the Fresno County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday. She declined to release the results of an autopsy.

Mercado's disappearance sparked an extensive search for the boy Friday. His body was discovered Saturday in the neighbor's dryer.

The Sheriff's Office is handling the homicide investigation because the Mendota Police Department lacks the resources.

11:51 a.m.: An autopsy was completed today on 4-year-old Alex Mercado of Mendota, whose body was found in a neighbor's dryer Saturday.

Fresno County Coroner David Hadden said Sheriff Margaret Mims will disclose the cause of death this afternoon. Mims scheduled a 3:30 p.m. news conference to talk about the the case.

A 14-year-old boy who lives next to Alex's home has been arrested in connection with the slaying.

A fund in memory of Alex has been set up at West America Bank in Kerman.

This is a wake-up call to all those parents whose toddlers and young children are outside unsupervised. Other kids, even teens, are not supervisors, they are playmates. You, as the parent, are the only supervisor (besides a sitter) that your child can depend on!

I know: When she was 3, my youngest was almost hit by a car. Out of the blue, she ran after another child, car missed her by inches. Happened so fast I couldn't react.

This just makes me cry.
