The sooner you realize that herbs and vitamins are a scam, that baby boomers seem to think will help them age gracefully and healthily the sooner the snake oil salesman will stop peddling these bogus products!!

i dont know if you believe in the bible but perhaps you should read it because it mentions herbs for cures and its alot older than you i think... scam is you trying to tell us that God given herbs are bad. perhaps you like your asprin when you have a headache? its made from white willow bark.. perhaps you need some penicilian? where do you think that comes from? or do you drink coffee in the morning or tea? they grow first before you buy them at the grocery store. maybe if you were living in a cave 1000 years ago you would of used herbs too. but since you live so cut off from the real world you think the real things are a scam and the fake things are real
very sad

"There is no cure for the common cold."

you are joking???? you think because they did something 1000's of years ago it makes it good?? have you ever heard of evoloution of ideas and learning?? if the best you can come up with is that herbs have been around for 1000's of years your point is very weak!!! herbs and vitamins are a scam!!

Thank you for this informative, self-explanatory & well-written article. Only one problem -
when we try to email it to family members (with the correct, double-checked email addresses), our attempt to "send" is rejected with the following message:
"Recipient email address appears to have an invalid format. Please try again."
Is this an error in your system that can be corrected?- or is it just a way for the Airborne article to have "limited" potential circulation while appearing to be available to be e-mailed anywhere? This has been a very time-consuming, frustrating exercise. Please help your readers who want to email this article!

It is ridiculous that people would believe Airborne could 'fully prevent' a cold. The old adage is "Don't believe everything you read". It should have been obvious that it is simply an immune booster, vitamins. All the energy and money put into suing Airborne should have been directed towards the real culprits of false advertising, the food industry.

Tom and Diane, it may be that the email addresses you're attempting to send the story have an unusual formatting, such as name@ci.state.us.gov or something with an unusual domain. I've had a few other people test the email function on that story, and it's worked fine for us. If you like, email me with the addresses, and I'll test it further.

In its print form, this article inappropriately pictures Airborne founder, Victoria (Tori) Knight-McDowell, as if she and her husband are the object of the lawsuit. In fact, it is the company to which the McDowells sold Airborne in December, 2005 - Airborne Health, Inc.- which has made the "false claims" that the Wilson/Harnett suit targets. Better research and judgment should have been made by the Herald; the paper should not have resorted to potentially libelous reporting simply because of the sensationalism of associating a very successful product with a local face. The truth is that many people have benefited from Airborne, myself included. I have never taken it expecting it to prevent or cure a cold but, rather, as one way to strengthen my system when it is feeling weak and susceptible to a cold. We all should be grateful for the for the availability of such a product.

This is great.... On what grounds can you prove to me that herbs and vitamins are a "scam." When in essence these are all natural products. Last time I checked natural means natural, not fake.

these posts are just as ridiculous as the lawsuit. Vitamins and herbs do help boost the immune system which in turn helps to fight off illness and that is scientifically proven. We all know there is no cure for the common cold but isn't something that helps fight or prevent a sickness a remedy. These claims are just as ridiculous as someone spilling a hot drink on THEMSELVES and suing the supplier of the hot drink for their own lack of coordination and clumsiness. When are people going to take responsibility for their own actions employ some ethics and stop looking for ways to make a buck by hurting someone else
