The statement is not only incendiary, it is so vague and general as to be meaningless. My guess is that Chico Kid is lonely and needy for attention, even of a negative sort.<quoted text>\Now why would you say something so incindiary?

Hence the label "troll", as in someone trolling for a response, no matter what the subject is. |

I thought Oroville has a pretty new skate and cycle park down by Bedrock. My wife took our 12 year old son down town to the Axium after school so he couild hang out with some his friends. My wife took one look at the groups hanging out there and told our son he wouldn't be staying. We drove around downtown the next evening after the little girl was hit. Ever go down the ally by the skate store?(not sure of the name) I can see why there is a problem, kids hanging out there, along the side walks, and they show no respect for people passing by. Yea, that's where I want my young ones hanging out (in allys)!!and next to tatoo places. Next time you are downtown just slowly drive by these places and see the BIG age differences that hang out there. There are always a few bad apples that spoil it for everyone else. Why do these places allow anyone to hang out in front of their places? They attract these kids and young adults so they need to police their own areas.

Dennis, I believe that is Miner's Alley. And as nice a shop as Greenline Sports is, it does attract a lot of young people on BMX bikes.

LOL, people in Oroville are "somewhat" dumb. What a sentence! Its as if you are uncertain that people in Oroville are actually dumb or not. Face it, you dont know what your talking about. So, please stop. The irony with your statement is that you are in the same boat, the U.S.S ignorant, rude, disgusting, and "somewhat dumb." |

I am the grandmother in question, and it really does make me ill to see this many people bickering and insulting not only the person you are communicating with, but all the rest of us who choose to make our homes in Oroville.
The article mentions my grandaughter's accident, but the Chief of Police is addressing a growing problem in the downtown area. I did not leave my grand-daughter unattended. She was supervised, as was her sister who was also with us. The man who is being sought in this accident is being addressed simply as the bicyclist because we don't know his name. Both of my granddaughter's and myself have bikes purchased from Greenline, and we apprectiate having the store here in town. We all reside in Oroville, and we love it here. This is a beautiful town with very nice people. Every town has it's issues and problems and I have lived in quite a few different places. Let's keep on target with what the real issues are and stop fighting so vehemently with eachother. The point of the article is this-There are many bike riders not obeying the law, and endangering not only themselves but all of us who come in contact with them. It needs to stop. This isn't a blanket statement encompassing those who are obeying the laws, only those who aren't. Anyone with information please contact the police. |

Sarah,
Thank you for your response. I only wish the tone of the article had been less inflammatory towards bicyclist themselves, the writer could have better used the term "suspect" or "assailant." I realize you are not at fault for the article. It was interesting to see kids boarding down the traffic lane on Montgomery street last week, how long before one is run over? I just think the way the story was written causes more problems than it solves. I hope you and your girls remain happy and healthy. |

Terrible that this happened for sure. On a grander scale - Oroville is doing a great job with their new park. It may benefit them to also look into building a bike/skate park to help curb the actions that take place downtown. Build it and they will come....just a thought. Oh, and Lyle - too bad this guy wasn't on a horse - then you could REALLY clean up the town:)

If the person was on a horse it would never have made the paper. We already have a wonderful skate/bike park in Oroville, down by the entrance to Bedrock Park. It is always being used, a little less when school is in session. I watch those kids skate or bike and am amazed at what they can do. I also think about how many hours went into learning how to do all that gravity defying riding. |

The wonderful skate/bike park is a MAGNET for trouble. It was under supervision by the park district after parents complained about the foul language, disrespect for posted rules, and drug use. Then - poof! No more supervision. Great decision.

The police still haven't identified the cyclist and we all know there are kids out there who know who he is. The right thing to do is give him up.He should be held responsible. In the meantime, the downtown merchants who see kids breaking the law also need to report them. Yes there is a skate park but not used as planned. Enforcement is the only answer and I hope in a few weeks the police don't get lax and the skaters and bikes start drifting back to the sidewalks, allysand street corners.

as far as I can tell the skate park is being used exactly as planed, I see it being used all the time to ride bikes and boards, sure they pay no attention to the week by week side designations, but they do watch out for each other and for the most part avoid collisions.
This park has the same problems all other parks have, why shouldn't it? Maybe when the riverfront is developed the exposure from additional business will deter more riffraff and make the park an even nicer place to be. |
And leave to Lyle to never miss a beat whining about the poor old bicyclist's plight and the big bad equestrians who want to keep them off the trails they built for horses. |
|
Finally some insight. Your problem is exactly prejudice-your obvious prejudice about just about everything except what you are involved in, and even that in a very narrow way. You might be having a break though old boy. Uhhhm. I doubt it though. Maybe you should keep repeating it until you really get it. |
