If your downtown on a bike or skateboard, it should be taken away, period.

Yes Tod, we need to save downtown from the human powered vehicles, and let only good old American pick up trucks roam the streets.
Grab your white sheet and pointed hat and lets kick some ****

If you are trying to be an ambassador for cycling, using this sort of attitude doesn't really rack up the brownie points. I was considering a family membership to LOBO, but maybe since I drive an American pickup truck I might not be welcome.

The problem with the BMXers (technically, I guess they would be more flat-land freestylers) on the sidewalks downtown is currently worse than the skateboarding problem downtown ever was. Something does need to be done. The sidewalks are for pedestrians. Would you like coming around the corner on the Freeman trail and coming face to face with a quad or dirtbike?

I have an F-250 myself, and I admit I am a lousy ambassador for cycling. Problem is nobody else wanted the job, will you step up???
I go into corners expecting the unexpected.I never assume the trail is empty.
I totally agree that any riding that endangers others is unacceptable, but blame the individual.
My whole problem with this story and Tod is the willingness to blame every rider for the acts of a few.
My problem is with prejudice!
Maybe I should repeat that.
MY PROBLEM IS WITH PREJUDICE!

You guys need to grow up. No one is blaming bicyclists or skateboarders in general. but the rude and inconsiderate ones like the guy who ran down the little girl need to be held accountable. Quit acting like little kids, and get over yourselves. This isn't about you or your bike club. It's about the safety of a child and other pedestrians downtown. Bikes do not belong on sidewalks any more than pickups. State Parks can't make sidewalks multi-use.

[QUOTE who **** That's funny Jim...I just saw some of those cardboard sign holders here in Chico. I'm sure you've seen them by Toys R Us. Every town has its beggars, it's druggies, etc. But this page is about a 2 year old girl who was victimized...not about bashing our neighboring towns.[/QUOTE]
You make it what you want it to be and get off my cloud.

Chico Kid, you make an excellent ambassador for Chico. Uninformed, overassuming, self-righteous, and obnoxious, passing judgement from your limited-sight position. You son, are a Troll.

I must say, these are interesting words coming from someone who apparently does not understand how to use common, everyday punctuation.

I wonder if this little girl is from Oroville. If she is, then she is one of "you people". If that is the case, "kid" must be disgusted by her as well.

Please let us know when you become a man, "kid".

I was almost hit by a teen on a bmx bike shooting down the sidewalk on Montgomery two weeks ago while checking out a yard sale. The boy had no regard for my safety or rights. Had I stepped in front of him, he would have laid me out. He was traveling about 20-25 mph, and could never have stopped or turned in time. If I had pursued him in my car, there was nothing that I could legally do, as no real crime was committed.

However, the act of one individual bicyclist does not condemn all bicyclists, any more than a hit-and-run driver condemns all car drivers. No doubt this young man was afraid of getting in trouble and so took off. Thank god the little girl was not more seriously injured.

One question: shouldn't a girl of 2 years be under an adult's supervision? What if she wandered out into the street and it was a car that ran her over? What if she was kidnapped?

The article stated the little girl AND her grandmother had just stepped onto the sidewalk after leaving a store... she wasn't just wondering around unattended.

uhMarie, I just read the article and you are right. I'm not sure the grandmother had also stepped out yet, but the girl was with her. I was just going off the summary given in the comment section, which gave the impression that the evidence linking the girl on the ground to the cyclist was the tire print on the back of her dress and did not mention the presence of eyewitnesses.

Interestingly, the description given of the young man and his bike matches that of the young man who just missed me on Montgomery above Oliver. Someone should have called the police and followed the jerk. The tire tracks could have been used to connect him to the crime.

...you need to reread it again. she was walking out with her as she was hit, and the grandmother & store employee witnessed it (hence, there even being a description of the cyclist). LOL, & the 'summary' is just the first paragraph of the Whole article.

<sigh> uhMarie, you seem to be intent on arguing no matter how inane your point. The article is vague about exactly where the grandmother was at the moment the boy hit the girl, and it really doesn't matter much, anyway. Try to stick to the main, important points, eh?

Wow. How very educated of you to make such a blanket statement. I am a college educated individual who has lived in Oroville my whole life. I see just as many idiots everywhere I go. Whether it's in the city, Sac, Chico, or Europe. Stupid people are everywhere, as evidenced by your statements about a town you obviously don't live in.
