Always a complainer in the crowd. Apparently a lot of people want to play soccer regardless of the mosquito issue. The city can spray the river to solve that problem.

You are right we should all live in fear because of WNV, for how many people in California the chances of getting it is less than getting struck by lightening.

I've never seen mosquitos there. Mosquitos don't multiply in running water. Mosquitos lay eggs perhaps in running water, but larvae live in stagnant non-running water, and that's where mosquitos hatch.

The city golf course gets funded for 30 thousand dollars. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park gets zero. Business as usual in Oroville. Golf for old fogies will always take precedence over a place for South Oroville kids to play.

No surprise

The golf course has green fees to play, this is revenue. The park generates no fee's therefore no revenue.

When the dam releases water during a high water year (2006), watch out soccer kids, the river will wash you all away.

I find it interesting that you have common sense when it comes to this but not when it comes to Harrison Stadium.

I am not against soccer field, I am against where they are being proposed next to the feather river. I am all for helping children.

We, along with 750 soccer children, parents, grandparents and community members applaud the $1 million earmarked for soccer fields. The spot selected is an excellent choice-- and it's taken over 13 years to get funding for this project. The SBF committee comprised of folks from city council and Feather River Recs, along with the chamber and others are to be commended for making a healthy choice for our community.

Johnson, pull your head out. The soccer fields will be a great asset to the community-- and enhance our area. Kids will have healthy options. No, they won't be washed away... the fields aren't that close to the water.

Apparently, I hit a nerve. Don't take it so personal when someone disagrees with you. Answer this question. With all the land in and around Riverbend park, why is it that the soccer fields are going where they are currently proposed versus adjacent to the freeway, above the existing parking lot. There must be at least 10-15 acres of vacant land up there. More than enough space for fields and parking, and you will not have to worry about the flooding of that area.
By-the-way, i am not against the soccer fields, just against that location. I never said the fields were not a good thing for the community or for children.

I agree. There are better spots at Riverbend park than the one chosen. But, I am very glad Oroville is going to get something for people to do. I wish they would also put in basketball courts.

I believe that location, above the existing parking lot, is reserved for the future aquatic facility with olympic sized pool, diving structures, etc. There's also a science tower planned. Of course, no funding has been secured for these ideas, they are just concepts.
