Are you aware of the recent campaign ad placed in the July 2008 issue placed in Dog Fancy magazine. This is an ad that offers a free gift bag to people who have recently purchased a new puppy with the toll free number to call to request the gift.(1-866-834-6061). Per Dog Fancy magazine this ad was placed under a different, false company name and not PETA. As I had heard about this, I called the number to see if the rumor was true. I was appalled to hear the message and to learn that the free gift bag is indeed a body bag that they will mail to you. It states that this body bag represents a dog you killed when you purchased a puppy, their "buy one, kill one free" campaign.
These tactics are underhanded and filled with deceit. How many people read that magazine and have called the number to learn that it is for a body bag?. What should have been a wonderful loving experience has been marred by their claims these people have just killed a pet in a shelter. Depending on the age, this could have a traumatic effect as well as affect the future relationship between them and their furry friend because of the guilt that person may harbor.
Having 7 furry members in my family, four of who are rescues, I am disgusted by these tactics. In my opinion this did nothing to promote adopting pets from rescues or SPCA's. In fact this campaign could actually put them in a negative light, especially if they post any information that even remotely connects them with PETA. In my opinion there should be some legal ramifications against this organization due to the misrepresentation and the deceit that they used to do this. This type of behavior is appalling and disgusting!

It's a huge shame that PETA is portrayed as an animal friendly organization. They euthanized 97 % of the animals they "rescued" in 2007. Some never made it out of town. They were put in dumpsters in the town they were "rescued" in. The facilities giving up these animals were promised that they would be placed in new homes if at all possible.
I feel that the media should really do in depth investigation of PETA. Then check out the Humane Society of the US - they collected donations for the Hurricane Katrina pets - was the money used for that ?? How about for Michael Vicks dogs ?? They never had possession of them - where did the money go ??? |

Absolutely Disgusting. They should be sending the bags to the kill shelters and people who leave them off there.

What a bunch of FREAKS. I guess they don't need the body bags since they got caught dumping the animals they killed into garbage dumpsters.
