What diverse range of experiences are they talking about? What accomplishment, experience, wisdom?

The reporters*, all cocooned in the weird and unhealthy little ethnic-studies beat, spoke with a total of six women**, all of them small-change members of a professional ghetto.

No normal people were involved in the creation of this article -- no doctors, no firefighters, no chefs, no builders, no accountants, no soldiers, no NOTHING outside of the weird, unhealthy, incestuous world of full-time Ethnic Grievance Mongers. These aren't wise Latinas or wise anything elses. They're Latinas whose job consists of Being Latina and very little else.

IJ, why do you pay good money to AP so you can reprint such poorly written articles?

*REPORTERS
Jesse Washington (Black male writer who was fired one year ago as AP's Entertainment Editor to become AP's full-time "national writer on race and ethnicity")
Amy Taxin
Suzanne Gamboa
Laura Wides-Munoz

**WOMEN
Teresa Puente, an assistant journalism professor at Columbia College in Chicago [a small "private arts and media college," NOT Columbia University] and the editor and founder of Latina Voices.
The novelist and poet Julia Alvarez
Lisa Garcia Bedolla, a professor of social and cultural studies at the University of California-Berkeley
Elizabeth Quintero, owner of a Philadelphia school that teaches Spanish
Ana Navarro, a Nicaraguan-American who served as a senior adviser to John McCain's presidential campaign
Rossana Rosado, publisher and CEO of the Spanish-language newspaper El Diario La Prensa in New York

this AP piece like the confirmation listening tour completely misses the point and end up talking about hear poor upbringing, toe nail polish and earrings, not about her dismal record with supreme court cases and lack of depth and substance in her opinions. And tell me what makes a latina women wise? a progressive liberal indoctrination at an ivy league school or just being a latina? i don't remember clarence thomas being referred to as a wise black man..quite the opposite i remember him being trashed by the same idealogical hacks we see defending this women today.

Well her lack of depth and knowledge will help get get her run over by Scalia and Alito which basically nullify her. She'll be a second class justice. Maybe her Catholic upbringing will bring her around on the abortion issue.

Sotomayor says she was channeling O'Conner, but O'Connor didn't say that a wise woman would reach a BETTER conclusion, but a good one. She tries to deflect saying that she was speaking to a Latina audience and wanted to let them know their experiences were important to the law. Yet instead of saying they could succeed, she had to say they were 'better'. Why?
I respect where she's come from and where she's gotten due to hard work and perseverence, but that was definitely a Quayle/Biden moment.

Face it the only reason she is even up there is that she is a concession to the Hispanics who voted for Obama and it sates the Feminist lobby. Obama had his pick of more qualified and eminent jurists but they were either too White(racist), too old (ageist), too male(sexist), and too not being of the group that wanted to be rewarded this week. Clarence Thomas is of the same ilk replacing one Black jurist with another so it's no surprise that a hand me down jurist like Sotomayor who thinks Latina women are wiser than White men is the favored pet for the job. Can anyone tell me what wise societies that Latina women have built?

What does it say about our legal system that in order to get confirmed, Sotomayor must tell the lies that she told today and yesterday? Are we that messed up as a country?

Too bad the "process" if attaining such "impeccable credentials" isn't all that pure.........,

The novelist and poet Julia Alvarez said in an e-mail that a white man with impeccable credentials like Sotomayor's doesn't have to cite his background because it's the "default" experience, which society has always assumed is the right and impartial one.

Sonia Sotomayor's controversial pick for the SC has brought up many questions.

1. Is it right to DISQUALIFY all male white candidates just because they are male and white?
2. Should Sotomayer renounce racist statements(I'm sure you have read it by now)
3. Are you more offended by her racist and sexest statements or her racist and sexest court ruling?
4. Should she denounce racist and sexist groups she is affiliated with such as National Council of La Raza*a. MEChA*b and The Belizean Grove?
5. Is she violating the Code of Judicial Conduct, which says judges should not join organizations that discriminate based on sex, religion, race or nationality.
*a)The National Council of La Raza refuses to :
1. Denounce and sever all ties with MEChA and any other organizations with which they are now or have ever been associated or funded which held to the racist doctrines published by MEChA.
2. Denounce the statement "Por La Raza todo [sic]. Fuera de La Raza nada" [“For the race everything, outside the race nothing”] as repugnant, racist, and totally incompatible with American society or citizenship.
3. Repudiate all claims that any current American territory rightfully belongs to Mexico.
4. Acknowledge the right of all Americans to live wherever they choose in the United States, and that no section or region of this country should be segregated by race or ethnic heritage.
5. Commit to sponsorship of nationwide educational programs to combat racism and anti-Semitism in the Hispanic community.
6. Seek neutral, third party supervision to ensure that all community and individual assistance programs offered by La Raza and groups supported by La Raza are accessible to all Americans, regardless of race or ethnicity, and that participation in those programs is fully compliant with Equal Opportunity laws.
7. Acknowledge the internationally recognized borders of the United States, the right of the citizens of the United States to determine immigration policy through the democratic process, and the right of the United States to undertake any and all necessary steps including military action to effectively enforce immigration law and defend its borders against unauthorized entry.
*b) A 1998 MEChA youth conference at California Polytechnic State University featured a printed program that introduced the school as "Cal Poly State Jewniversity". The program also referred to New York as "Jew York".

I think her answers to several of the questions proved she is not a very intelligent person. She used the wrong word quite a few times in her responses. She used 'vagrancies' for 'vagaries', 'providence' for 'province', 'eminent' for 'imminent'. Wow, if Sarah Palin would have done this Keith Olberman would be busy for the rest of the year.
