Sure, Bernie. Go after those evil smokers, but not the illegal alien gang bangers. Good thinking!

smokers are dorks. I hope the tobacco companies increase the chemicals in their tar bars so they will have rapid cancer development. it makes me laff when i see smokers who are oxygen tanked in the hospital where i work. hopefully your loved ones are among the ranks of the dying. i really believe this. you deserve to be all tanked up.

It makes me feel good that drug addicts like smokers are being squeesed. A true drug addict doesn't care about others, especially those who care about them. We need to remove all smokers from the world. Oh wait, they are being removed. Jajajaja

According to the American Lung Association's most recent survey, 78% of all current smokers are non-white. If Parks gets his way and this is ever enforced, watch the city be buried in Civil Rights lawsuits.

Excuse me Mr. Parks you idiot the "AIR" you breathe in Los Angeles that has no boudaries is worse that any fricken "Cigarette smoke" that I could blow in your face. In fact I could sit in a room with you all day everyday for 6 months and blow smoke down you throat wll not even come close to the damage you breathe in every day living in LA. Your such an idiot. Why dont you try doing something smart for the City like resigning. Because if this is the best thing you can come up with you need to find a new job.

Will this apply to the homeless? I didn't realize L.A.'s crime rate had dropped so low that this is the new priority.

typical politician. afraid to deal with any of the real problems that are out there, they find a "feel good" something to show how much they care about us. attacking smokers (they have no political friends) is easier that going after government corruption/stupidity or air/water pollution, education, etc. etc.

My sentiments exactly, Tom, the councilmembers won't take a definitive stand against, say, illegal aliens, waste of funds, or anything that will jeopardize their voter base, then defend that stand. Ironically, I think even if they did take a controversial position and defended it intelligently, they'd garner more respect than they get otherwise.

They're arrogant, smug in their jobs, and will inflict their will against easy targets, like smokers and fast-food restaurants, as evidenced by the South LA debacle that's ongoing.

Bernard Parks has a right to propose this and having to inhale smoke from my neighbors that gets sucked in by my fans I'm inclined to support it. However if politicians really want to ban smoking, why not ban the manufacture, distribution and sale of tobacco and tobacco products? Oh yeah I forgot we have outlawed marijuana and we tried Prohibition on alcohol. That really works doesn't it?

I have to believe that if people want to smoke and government collects taxes, gladly I must add, from tobacco products that some provision has to be made for those who do smoke. So in the end I've got to give in a little and inhale a little smoke once in a while. Besides I was raised in a house where both of my parents and their friends smoked and I have not suffered that much from it as I'm still alive with no major health issues.

So maybe we need some honest assessment on where smokers can indulge and be the least nuisance. On the other hands non smokers need to allow some areas that they can reasonably avoid if the smoke bothers them and let those places exist without protest. After that if smokers will be courteous and refrain from smoking if there is an area where non smokers must of necessity also be then we can all get along.

Parks is as worse a city councilman as he was a police chief. Typical Deomocrat politician to be obsessed with the small stuff when we have increased gang violence in this city, out of control spening and tax raising at city hall, and a fiscal crisis of huge proportions. If you elect Barack Obama you will get the same type of bloated over controlling government that sees the need to regulate every aspect of your life.

as much as i hate cigarette smoke being a ex smoker. my fellow alumnus of LACC ought to focus his attention on more urgent matters like gangs shooting innocent people.

i love to walk so i took a walking class, and the more i excercsed (walking) the more i felt i was wasting my time. i would smoke right after doing 3 miles. as i walked the more negative my attitude became about smoking. after about 2 months i decide to stop. 2 weeks of the patch, took it off, been okay ever since... try an activity that you love to do, but it conflicts with smoking. try to do that activity as much as possible then when you smoke you will feel guilty and you might contemplate stopping. hopefully you will be on your way good luck

Instead of going after smokers why doesn't Mr. Parks spend more time on going after Bars? People go in their dirnk their merry way into oblivion and then get behind the wheel of a car. Go after the Gangs. These people are terrioists. Does he have anything better to do. I know who I'm not voting for.

Doesn't he have anyting better to do? We have Wars, Gangs, Homeless People and Children, Rising Cost of living. So lets just pick on smokers. What a waste of a paycheck.
