There is NO security or protection on the blue line. Just ride it once and you will see how unsafe it is at any time!!! Unfortunate since we really need a good rail/bus sytem.

I'm a woman in my 20s and I used to take the blue line to the green line when I worked at the airport a few years ago. Never again! I would leave at 12pm and get back to the anahiem & lb blvd station at 12am! I will never forget when I was waiting for the blue line train at Imperial sitting on the bench next to some guy and from behind came someone one a bike. They guy next to me jumped up and they immediately starting asking "where you from" to eacher. Holy **** I did know where to run and hide being out there in the open. I was about to run to the elevator and hide in there when the two realized that they had a mutual friend! Ever since that day I drove to work! Paying for parking is betting than losing my life.

the public system will never work. we are too far apart and there is no security. ever since i was in jr. high i dread taking the bus. all kinds of bad things goes on in the bus and there is no one there to do anything about it. the driver is scared to death to do anything even when they know it's going on. people get beat up, rob, and damage the bus but no one says nothing. the nice, clean, orderly, and respectable public commuters like in other countries will never happen here. americans focus on "me" and screw everyone else. go to any asian countries and the bus is clean and eeeryone is respectful of everyone else. the train is nice and clean. not even one mark on the walls, seats, or anywhere.

Mike wrote: Give them the Death Penalty!!! Clear and simple. We cannot tolerate this. Same thing happened here in seattle...a group of loser thugs beat up and killed Tuba Man. EVERY city needs to crack down on these criminals and the ONLY solution is EXECUTION. Time to become like Singapore and deal with the crime problem. Time to bring back an eye for an eye...sounds barbaric, but people are getting really tired of this. THANKS MIKE, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.

Look what the corrupt legal/political system did to Bernard Goetz when he rode public transportation in New York and defended himself when he was confronted by dangerous violent thugs that are so commonplace throughout Long Beach.(not just on Pine Avenue, either)
The corrupt system ended up making HIM out to be the criminal. We can expect no better treatment from our own corrupt politicians and judges should the overtaxed law abiding Long Beach residents begin fighting back.
If only the Long Beach politicians would be as concerned about the public safety as they are elderly widow ladies who used to smoke biodegradable cigarettes on the beach or in beer joints until they cracked down on those unfortunates - the hard working Rosie the Riveters of yesteryear.
Perhaps if they had that much concern, they would instruct the cops to issue concealed firearms permits to them, and encourage those decent elderly ladies to use them.

I take the blue line everyday. The first day I took the blue line, I disturb of the quality of service the police and the Metro employees provided to me and the other riders. It sad how no one of us the riders tend to complain about it to the authorities. For example, in the Compton Station, there was no police officers patrolling the station nor asking for fare, until five people got shot, two got killed. Now, it has been almost two-months and in the first month of the shooting, you saw every hour of the day, police officers and fare inspectors. Today, you rarely seen them in the afternoon. I pay taxes, I pay my fare, I deserved better services. Now, it would go the same with the same station, the first month the police patrol would increase then after they would not care. Yes, that part of Long Beach is infected with thugs and drugs dealer. I also heard that Saturday morning an incident occur in that same station, involving someone getting cut in the face,
Please, lets step up. Lets demand better services in the MTA. Now, that Measure R(AN INCREASE IN THE SALE TAX)has past by us, lets demand more public safety in the blue line.

How sad that we as a "civilized" society have come to this. I'm so glad I didn't buy a house in that area. This conjures up the event of Halloween when those 3 girls were beaten (the accused got off with a slap on the hand). I hope they catch these thugs and hold them accountable and their parents if they are underage!

The L.A. County Sheriff's deputies can be found at a small handful of places, and only during rush hours—when the revenue (gained from fare evaders) is highest. Three of those places are where the Green and Blue lines converge (which is where Metro Transit HQ is located—how convenient!) and the white shirts make the bottleneck worse; the Red and Blue Line convergence and Pershing Square—where up to eight deputies can be found loafing on weekday mornings above ground and far from where the crazy people from Skid Row gather below. However, there is chance to be heard. Metro is having two hearings about the renewal of the LASD's contract. Show up and demand that Metro give the contract back to LAPD or hire their own force. Obviously the L.A. County Sheriff is too busy to get the job done, and here is a chance to tell Baca to pack up his boys and shove off: http://la.streetsblog.org/2008/11/14/metro-co... Finally, I would be glad to speak to any of you who have mentioned other incidents whereby the sheriff or deputies have neglected to do their duty on the Blue Line. E-mail me via www.TheBusBench.com

I agree with you about arming yourself but there is a very thin line between 'SELF DEFENSE' and 'ASSAULT'. My friend was attacked in Signal Hill at Walnut and PCH by two 'Latino' gangmembers while enroute from work to home @0600am. While waiting for the light to change two men approached him and asked for a smoke after he said he didn't smoke one of the men pulled out a box cutter and demanded my friend to give up his backpack and wallet. To make a long story short he defended himself but after my friend knocked out the first gangmember and subdued the second 'criminal' he was arrested for assault. My friend pleaded out to 'Mayhem' charges so he would only get probation and not jail time.
