I stopped taking the blue line after 6pm a long time ago. I personally had my life threated TWICE. Once by a group of teens who kicked an old woman and i defended her.

Why are the police present on the Blue Line only on the first of the month and even then, they always appear during rush hour when we actually need more of a police present at night when all the drunk thugs ride.

So sad.

I hope the police don't wait a month to ask for help from the public who may have witnessed this incident, not unlike the September beating of a man by four thugs that was captured on camera but not released to the public for over 30 days.

I realize we aren't totally safe anywhere.

In todays world, I would feel less safe standing at a bus stop or riding the Blue Line.

Yes, they need security people on the lines but do people want to pay for this.

As we know some people get killed in a car by a shooter. This happened to a former neighbor several years ago. He died!

It was a lot safer when the Los Angeles sheriffs were actually riding the trains and patrolling the platforms; But that service was contracted out to a security firm.

Just another justification for my move. I am so sorry to see what is happening in Long Beach. Too bad I had to get robbed and be the victim of a slumlord to finally see it. I used to take the Blue Line sometime and at night it was really scary.

I had missed this story. When did it appear in the PT and was it a lengthy article? I do agree with reapers. The County Sheriffs were very much a presence when they patrolled. They would be at every other station. Hop on and off checking tickets and making decent folks feel safe.
The last two times I took the Blue Line into LA and back I did not see one officer anywhere.
Where can I find out more on this poor victim? Also to countryboy I have ridden the NY subways at all hours and in some pretty tough areas of Brooklyn, Queens and upper Manhattan and never felt particularly in danger.
Bring the LA County Sheriffs back!

something happened at the Willow Station on Monday evening -- tons of sheriff's deputies and police in the area.

and one day last week, at the 7th and Metro station the paramedics and sheriffs were cleaning up a big pool of blood, with a blood-filed pair of shoes sitting nearby.

Never a dull moment on public transportation!

I hope the perpetrators are charged with murder or attempted murder and not just assault and battery. Long Beach MUST be seen as tough on crime.

Its a very sad thing that people can't even take the blue line and feel ok about it... Wheres all the patrol officers that they need? I guess they just don't give a dam about the people riding it.

Where is the whole story? Why was the guy beaten? Who are the suspects? This story is very light on any facts at all. Sounds like a press release and no one tried to ask any follow up questions.

Lets start a web page the keeps the press releases so we can read them, that way we can get rid of the PT once and for all.

Give them the Death Penalty!!! Clear and simple. We cannot tolerate this. Same thing happened here in seattle...a group of loser thugs beat up and killed Tuba Man. EVERY city needs to crack down on these criminals and the ONLY solution is EXECUTION. Time to become like Singapore and deal with the crime problem. Time to bring back an eye for an eye...sounds barbaric, but people are getting really tired of this.

Juan...just what I was going to say in regards to the Halloween incident. Whenever you have ghetto thugs like these, you're going to have safety issues. Like Country Boy, I pack and will not hesitate to use it. The Marine Corps taught me well.

I agree with you on this. Start executing their butts! Swift punishment! Long Beach is too afraid to punish these criminals. The police response anywhere west of Cherry Avenue is poor!!! People....you should arm yourselves and defend yourselves...the criminals have, so should you!
