Van Nuys Performing Arts Center Co-Owner Accused Of Assault

The co-owner of The Performing Arts Center in Van Nuys was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting several women who were students at his facility, police said Friday.

My daughter was a student there from 2002 until 2004. She accused him of the same and he convinced me she imagined it and blew things up in her mind because she was having some other problems. I did remove her from the school and thank God upon reading this that I did. I regret the day I ever put my faith in him. I'm thankful these girls have the strength and courage to be heard.

My family and I have known Joey and the teachers of the Performing Arts Center for over a decade: let me assure you, as a father of two girls who have studied at the Academey, and with Joey himself, that THE ACCUSATIONS AGAIST MR. MALONE ARE FALSE!

A person is INNOCENT until a jury proves them otherwise. The burden of proof is on the ADULT STUDENTS who have maliciously accused Mr. Malone out of their own weaknesses and ill-placed lack of self.

Joey Malone is a hero and mentor to thousands of female students -- he deserves the respect and support he's earned in a lifetime of dedication to inproving the lives of hs students.

He must not be judged by rumor or innuendo or, most importantly, the media.

I studied at the performing arts center for 2 years. I talked to several teachers about Joey. He was a great teacher in the classroom. It was the private sessions where he told you to close the blinds in the observation windows of studio A, take off all of your clothes, and dance with only the spot light on to get in touch with your body. Then, when you thought you were the only one in the building, you could see him watching you through the corner of the window. He would tell you to masturbate and that would improve your dancing. He would say, "you are supposed to hug me and kiss me when you see me. Don't hug me like that. Your body is supposed to touch mine when you hug me. You are supposed to kiss me on the lips."
There are several teachers and friends who have always supported Joey. It's like he has control of your brains. This is not the fist time anyone has spoken of this. It will not be the last if he is allowed to work there again. How can you blame the victims and say they can't handle the dance world. I was already working. I had already booked jobs and brought in substantial paychecks. Joey wouldn't release me from my apprentice position. He said I couldn't work yet. But, steadily offered more "private sessions" with him. Several teachers told me to quit. I was ready. But he said I wouldn't work. He'd make sure of it. And I believed him. I also felt sorry for his wife and children. I knew this would eventually happen.

He has been doing the same stuff to his female students for about 20 years. I have personal knowledge of this and nothing reported in the article is new.
At least 4 other women have come forward with accusations going back many years.

So typical for some people to judge so quickly! Let me tell you, I've taken dance classes with Joey in the past with ALL FEMALE students! There was never inappropriate behavior by Joey. His classes were always fun, professional and exciting. A class like no other and I miss it dearly. These accusations are completely ABSURD and FABRICATED. Joey is passionate about dance and would never jeopardize his career over some people who are probably desperate for attention...HE'S INNOCENT!!!!

in response to fabiana, he didn't do it to students who visited class. he did it to apprentice students. The ones who were there from 9 in the morning to 11 at night. the ones who could not make a move without his approval. i wish i had just taken class. i was never touched inappropriately during his normal monday and wednesday 130-330 class. it was other times. how dare you blame the victim. there are more than those 4 out there. he is a wonderful teacher with the best techniques and information. that's why this is so sad. and that's why he knew he could do it. people needed him.

People stating their from 'Geogia'...I remember you...weren't you the one who continuously stole money from the studio and other apprentices and was a pathological liar? I would just like to add, this allegation was from an adult, and since when can someone 'make' you do anything? Especially when people involved keep going back, day after day...for years. And the trial has started....if the allegations are true, he is a sick, cowardly, disgusting human being whose own self gratification came at the expense of those naive young women who placed their trust in him.

Why is it that whenever allegations of sexual abuse arise women suddenly become so innocent and naive? These girls are jazz dancers in Hollywood who want to go on to big careers. What do they think dancers sell...popcorn? Have they never watched a show or video? When was the last time you mistook Christina Agulierra for a nun? And the "girls" that accused Joey are not "girls", they are grown women in their twenties. I am a male dancer and studied with Joey in the '80's. He was a strict but wonderful teacher and always respected his students. I haven't been privy to the trial but more than likely he did something to **** these girls off and they are retaliating in the most viscious way possible. Don't believe for a second that these women don't know what they are doing. However, the truth will out and we'll see what happens. But these allegations seem to be very, VERY out of character for Joey.

Yes, he was a great teacher but he also has a real problem that finally got the best of him and unfortunately many others will now have a lot of healing to deal with.
Just because women dance in Hollywood doesn't mean that they have to be treated with disrespect. They were students and he was their teacher. He had a great responsibility and totally took advantage of his power.
