The Marriott? Are you freakin' kidding me? How can they choose a suburban-style giant white box over the sleek skyscraper of the Hotel Intercontinental? Anyone else realize the the HI, besides being vastly more attractive, is ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CONVENTION CENTER!?!!
This is a huge disappointment on so many levels. Way to go, city leaders. Way to settle for the safe bet, for mediocrity. Woo hoo. Give me a break.

heh ...just saw the 5:00 news and they said the panel felt this project was more likly to meet the 2010 deadline than the Intercontinental 44 story one.

They also said this is just a panels recommendation and not a decision. Also it was said the Intercontinental project would not neccesarily be off the table.

Honestly, I'm in shock. They are being over conservative with financing here. Way to really push the envelope and secure a standing as a world class and progressive city.

Looks just like a carbon copy of the Simon building. Another faceless box that blends into the landscape. Good choice. Way to really WOW the convention world. Jeez. Terrible.

Mark my words, this development team will go do exactly the same thing they did with the last Marriott proposal - they'll go shop it around to other cities once they prove it out here. What could have been a unique amenity for the city is now just another generic hotel that will soon be replicated in Louisville or someplace else. What a disappointment.

I can't believe that the committe chose a candidate that furnished such a dull, uninspiring addition to our skyline. The Intercontinental would have set an impressive stamp on Indianapolis and argued for Indy moving more towards a world-class city.

4 plain looking hotels instead of a beautiful trademark high rise. GREAT CHOICE

And another thing, it is yet another undistinguished piece of architecture imposed on the city. It will be right at home next to the bland Simon headquarters.

Could the Star get a better rendering of the five hotel complex. All we see now is a 25-story JW Marriott Hotel. (Without proper offset it will put a huge shadow on the baseball field)

Once again, small-town vision results in a small-town choice. Just like the Airport, the Stadium and most other major projects in Indy, this has no architectural value and keeps Indy where I guess it belongs--second tier.

What are taxpayers being asked to put into this?

How will this be connected to White River State Park and the Convention Center?
