School admin proves its stupidity. Zero tolerance for thinking and having original thoughts outside the mandated "Newspeak" Glad my kids are almost done with school and have a parent who supports their right to respectfully show individual thought.

The poor filmakers named the teacher to be killed by name. That is a threat! If they would have hurt the teacher, so moe would be saying, Why didn't the school and police connect the dots?"

You stated "respectfully show individual thought" Since when has threatening someone with physical harm respectful? As a parent myself, I'd applaud a school that removes students like this from the classroom.

No wonder Indiana's ISTEP scores are in the toilet. These supposed school officials should put this much time and effort into focusing on the education of our children. These kids lost 2 months of school. Now they have to work even harder to catch up. This is a clear example of the zero tolerance policy taken too far.

Anyone who supports these parents needs to have their heads examined. Can you imagine the support these parents would have in Columbine, Colorado? That sure became creative. Michael Savage is as about as right-winged as they come and says Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. In this case, he is correct.

It was a movie where teddy bears, yes stuffed teddy bears, plot to kill a teacher - no first name given. Last I knew the first Amendment was still in intact. Let's not give these kids any credit for not doing drugs, shooting guns, or raping somebody. Let's persecute them for making a movie. While some might consider the kid's decisions to be in bad taste, I see no reason why they were treated the same as a kid who brings a loaded gun or drugs to school. The DA's office declined to charge these kids.

So now the fascists from Hamilton Co. have been heard from; what a moron. When you resort to quoting a right-wing knuckleheaded racist like Savage it kind of blows your argument out of the water.

This boy's mother is an idiot. She is always a subject of controversy and always sticking herself out there for a fight after making a bad decision. She is a digrace to Greenfield and a disgrace as a parent. School officials were right but we can all go to the ICLU to "get off the hook". What will these boys do next that mommy will save them from-blow up the school?

Finally a little common sense... Judge Barker (not my favorite, by the way) recognized that Teddy Bears don't present a threat to anyone except folks without a sense of humor!

How many hollywood movies out there have a character whose name is the same as a real person...I'm pretty sure that Freddy Krueger killed someone with my name, but I didn't feel particularly threatened. That's why all movies have a disclaimer in the credits stating that any names used are not based on any real person and that any similarity is purely coincidental. Maybe these guys should add that to their movie if it isn't already there. Sheesh...what's the world coming to when a couple of AV club geeks can stir up this much controversy. Next thing you know some kid is going to move into town and have all the kids listening to that evil rock and roll and dancing in skirts that come up to their knees and start dating the preacher's daughter...oh wait, wrong movie, wrong backwards hick town.

DISCIPLINE? ARE YOu serious? That's funny! It was a MOVIE! That was made off of school grounds, and included a teacher's last name that DIDNT even go to the school they went to! NO! There's a FINE line between discipline and expulsion, and NO they shouldn't of been expelled... not even put in trouble.. they did nothing wrong... and yea that's why our I-Step+ Scores are bad... too many districts focused more on kicking the student out rather that working on those darn scores!

Judge Sarah Evans Barker was fair and just in her decision-making. The students' immaturity and sense of judgement placed their educational futures in jeopardy. Hopefully, this is a lesson none of the these will forget and live their lives responsibly as a good example to others.

Coincidental with the teacher / character name? May be, may be not. As long as the movie didn't do anything or urge anything unlawful, students should be allowed freedom of expression. Students' rights are not always left behind at the schoolhouse door.

I think this is one of those "events" that leave few with any choices.

The school corp. did not have any choice but to expell the students. If they had not and ANYTHING else had happened, the school corp would have been exposed to potential lawsuits. Slam dunk. Now if ANYTHING happens, the school corp and your tax dollars are sheilded from responsibility.

Sure it was just a little movie. If they had just not used the last name of a teacher in the same school corp., the school corp could have probably ignored the movie.

We all know that if they had ignored it and, god forbid, something did happen, the school corp would have been found partially responsible. It may not be fair, but the cost of the defense alone would be staggering.

The school corp. just did not have a choice. They had to do what they did and they had to defend their position strongly. It was the only reasonable choice that they had. Even if they personally did not see a problem, they still had to do it. Unfortunately, the boys got caught up in something they didn't understand. And, judging by some of these post, alot of adults don't appreciate the position the school corp was in.

hey - why aren't these teachers working on GRADUATING more students with MORE EDUCATION than worrying about stripping them of their first ammendment rights?

oh - forgive my ignorance - they're UNION by trade and socialist by nature and hence - evolutionarily handicapped (excuse me - CHALLENGED)...

So maybe they should have used a generic name like "Smith"? I'm sure there is a Mr., Miss, or Mrs. Smith somewhere in the school corp.

Yeah touchy issue, but what exactly should the kids have done? What name should they have used?
