um, what makes these do it your-selfers "designers"? This is the best: "I don't want to be in a position where I must sell pieces or run a store. I don't want to dwell on that."

So they guy doesn't want to actually work for a living? Why bother having a fashion show for stuff you can't buy? What a silly ego trip.

I agree with commenter "gimme a break." He seems more lazy than inspiring. What is special about his clothes? Nothing that looks creative, original, or breathtaking? He definitely would not make it as a notable fashion designer in New York or any place in this world (maybe Kansas)? I'm from Brazil, then lived in New York, and London, and they wouldn't even sell his clothes in the cheap-o stores.Sometimes I don't understand Hawaii-it seems anyone can be a designer, musician, or model here even if you have no talent or are not attractive.I guess that's why they stay here as they can only make it here.

back to basics is good style, in clothing, furniture and decor. it may be the sign of the times that makes us need to simplify and go "green". i just bought a dish towel made from bamboo fiber. it is wonderfully absorbant. bamboo and hemp are the natural renewable resource of the future. this designer's style is in sync with our present needs and brings out a refreshing character in clothing rather than the sexy and raunchy.

I mostly meant that I really have no money to put anything into production, I try my best. I'm trying to grow as a designer and realized in the past that trying to do the whole merchandising thing was killing my time and creativity. you will be able to buy everything from then line after the show and I will do my bet to fill demand if need be! And of course I shop it around and I work everyday on becoming a better designer, its true everyone thinks they can be a designer, I haven't even graduated yet! I hope you guys can see the video of the line after the show, its hard do everything your self!

Love Dan

p.s. sorry I'm no Indashio

Gimme a Break, Rachel, and Fernanda:

"This is the best: "I don't want to be in a position where I must sell pieces or run a store. I don't want to dwell on that."

That's why there is a creative side and a business side to many.

He wants to do the creative process and then someone else can market it for him and run the books, marketing, packaging, etc.

I only saw images of what the SB showed, and have not seen his line, or his portfolio to make comments on whether his designs are creative, original, or breathtaking.

Hi Dan, I think it's a very positive thing that you are NOT an Indashio. I was at that supposed Indashio "fashion show" and I laughed at the show b/c the clothes were not fashion. I think the fashion show was more about hype than substance. I've seen your clothes, think they are clothes that are finally wearable, are creative, and I think can definitely sell.Money is hard so good for you that at least you're trying your best to find your way. I like your response to some of these negative postings - it shows you are warm, sincere, and not arrogant.I have plenty of friends that would buy your stuff so don't let a few negative comments here even bring you down. You can't please everyone. Also, bravo to you for choosing usually the non-standard Hawaii models. Your models tend to look like girls that are neither too New York style model and not like the implants/beach girl. I don't know what Fernanda is talking about - Brazilians seem to concerned with physical perfection-I guess only clothes that make plastic surgery look good.Anyways, keep creating, stay focused, and you will succeed!!!!

Before everyone goes on knocking down Dan Weavers fashion, take some time to proofread your own writing. Forming complete, coherent sentences is not that difficult.

I seriously cannot believe how terrible Hawaii people write. Not only does it make it unclear what you're trying to say, but it makes you sound stupid...but then again, maybe you are.

Why do people always need someone or something to shut down? What good does it serve to pick apart and dis every little thing? It's obvious what Dan is trying to say. Think about it.

Dan is an extremely innovative and creative person who is also very humble. He definitely does not deserve to be disrespected for doing something positive and worth while.

Also, Dan is someone who is actually doing something productive and unique in Hawaii, unlike many other people who just chill out and never accomplish anything.

Don't knock the hustle.

Wow, you'd think there wouldn't be such hardcore hating trolls in Hawaii, but surprise surprise. I'm sure Fernanda sees lots of fashionable clothes in Hana. Keep up the good work Dan, your designs are good, and have great concepts. The organic fabrics are sick too. I challenge all these fools to a design off at LOFT tomorrow night.

So a couple of people that haven't ever put their necks on the line gave Dan some static. Good for them, I hope they feel better. Anyone that knows Dan is well aware that he's an extremely creative, hard working, passionate, and brave guy. Dan ignore them. Better yet, let their negativity fuel you in your continued success.

"Why bother having a fashion show for stuff you can't buy?"

Um...fashion designers showcase their line in fashion shows to show their work. The clothes are hardly every distributed and ready to sell so not everyone can get them. Dan isn't trying to be the GAP, get off his back. He is doing his own thing and I applaud him.

Fernanda...
From the bottom of my heart I strongly suggest that you leave ASAP. Hana is a sacred place as is the rest of our home, we never need close-minded people ruining our home or imposing their ways on ours. I believe that if you have misunderstandings, you should leave. Nothing needs you here so do the world a favor and return to where ever you need to. "If you don't like something, change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it."

Sewing a bunch of fabric together, getting nadine kam to do a story about you, and then invite a bunch a friends to a bar to look and you work does not make you a "designer" in the commercial sense. It does make you a bit too self involved.

All of these "designers" roaming around town inviting their friends to bars to see their "creations" is truly annoying. No one can actually buy this stuff and if they could, it doesn't fit anyway. These so called designers have little technical skill and often no formal training. At least Dan is in school for this and acknowledges this. If you want to be a real apparel designer, then you need to be in L.A. or New York. That is a fact folks. There is no industry here to support "fashion" and yes Fashion is a business first and art second. These aren't fashion shows, they are silly pretentious exhibitions of ego and a waste of time.

What does "showcase" mean? Why is this considered a "fashion show" ? Guess what?-Fashion designers showcase their work to BUYERS! They put on shows to solicit business for their creations. What do you think they are for, artistic expression? What is the point of this event? Have Dan's friends applaud him, get his name in the paper?

gimme a break's comments were the most realistic and coherent of this entire lot. people here claiming that dan weaver is creative, has a good vision/concept,etc.
you people are delusional or at best have a very base concept about this industry or of other prominent fringe designers/labels.
in no way am i hating on dan weaver personally, but let's face it, his **** is just lack-luster. i don't his label in any prominent boutiques... maybe people who haven't travelled or experienced the realities of the industry can't grasp this simple concept. or maybe the ones dismissing the opinions of the "haoles" or individuals not in the "hana" have never been out of hawaii. wouldn't be surprised if they are in chinatown 4 days outta the week circle-jerking to stagnant music and irrelavent "fashion."

I know Dan personally, that said. He has the softest.. most sensual mustache of a man his age. When you kiss him, you almost feel like a designer yourself. His GF better watch out because i'm going to sleep with you dan... then burn the house down!

I went and saw the work of clothing designer Dan Weaver, and I thought that his collection was beautiful and very inspiring. And from the look of his collection it doesn't show any laziness nor any lack of creativity. Whenever his business is up and running I would definitely be a part of his clientele!

From an artistic standpoint, I totally get him (thinking outside the box).

However, DUDE, your design is frumpy and I wouldn't even look twice at them in Walmart.

Sorry.

Your artistic abilities might be in serious question if this is the best you can come up with.

But, I've only seen 2 pics. Hold on a sec while I try to google more of your "designs".

....

OMFG....

Dude....

If these are yours.....

http://public.fotki.com/honozooloo/danweaver/

I don't have anything nice to say, except STOP the plaid.... and the frumpy.

Wow.

Just.... wow.
