Very misleading headline. The writer confuses "God" with "organized religion." Two different things entirely! In addition, the Pew study asks about belief in God. Many do not use or like the term "God," however they believe strongly in what would be considered aspects of God - ethics, goodness, the universal oneness of all things. Many who have practiced and experienced comparative religions - and you don't need advanced education to do that - have a very INCLUSIVE view of goodness. This IS belief in God, albeit not using the lexicon of organized religion, and moving beyond religion's emphasis on guilt and sin.

Looked like a not super survey, but also, what a bad article. "The national average for absolute belief was quite a bit higher, at 71 percent." Makes me think of that Anchorman "Sex Panther" statistic "60 percent of the time, it works EVERY time".

No surprises here as this article is just the latest in a series run by The Courant about marginalizing religion, particularly the Roman Catholic Church. A lot of the problems we face as a society are due to the decline of religion. Of course, The Courant will never admit this because it does not fit in with its secular-progressive agenda. However, even if someone does not believe in God and/or does not attend church, following the 10 Commandments can only lead to good things.

God really doesn't care about America or any other country. Last I heard, he was vacationing in the South Pacific and did not want to be bothered.

Well, that's fine, but how many in Connecticut have fully given themselves to the flying spaghetti monster? As a nation, we need to be touched by his noodly appendage.

The Northeastern states consistently rank highest in quality of life. We have the best educated, most productive, healthiest, and wealthiest residents. Where's this decline?

Just because a bunch of people believe in something doesn't make it true. This survey is a waste of time and space. It would be more interesting to find out how many people beleive the world in flat.

Don't forget that global warming is the direct result of the decline in pirates. Seriously, do the math, the numbers do not lie. I can't wait for beer heaven.

Once we realize that God is not separate from the whole of us - that every single one of us is divine and part of what we call "God" - then the better off we'll all be!

If this study used a map with red and blue states and it would resemble the other often used political map with red and blue states.

We Yankees don't like to worship God because it gets in the way of worshiping ourselves and our belief that we're smarter than others.

Well you ever wonder why we have the worst politicians in the country. Why the State of CT should be called "The Peoples Republik Of CT?" It's because we are a Godless society. We have lost our God Fearing Yankee soul and our politics only confirms that fact. We don't rely on our faith any more we rely on the "Good Graces" of the State" With it's minions of state workers. But hey what do we get with all our high taxes? Nothing, corrupt and inept Govt, substandard services skyrocketing energy prices. And a huge God shaped whole were our hearts used to be. This is why someone gets hit in clear view of the public and no one stops and no one cares.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
