What about the boys state champion relay teams and swim teams from the recent seasons. Not even a mention. There is more to life the football. I challange any football player to go against any swimmer. Most can't make one lap let alone swim 8-10,000 yards in 2 hour practice,

2 Time District HJ Champion
4 Time York County HJ Champion

One problem with this series might be because as time has passed there are no more old long-time LOCAL sportswriters passing on memories or files.

What about all the students of the late 60's and early 70's?

We are great, we are fine, we're the class of '69!:-)

Actually, there are still local sportswriters around from the 60s and 70s. They just aren't working as sportswriters. You might note that Boeckel and Nagle from your class (and mine)were listed as honorable mentions and Albright from a few years earlier was among the top 10.

When the YDR contacted me about this series nearly a year ago, I told them I thought the idea was a loser. Simply put, you wind up with 10 very happy people from each school, and a couple hundred folks (or more) who wind up being really royally ticked that they weren't included. Further, it's a given that someone is going to be overlooked.

I think it would have been better, and I expressed this belief, to have chosen athletes by era. Pre-1960 followed by 10 or so from each successive decade. And, at least in the case of YSH, the YDR had the names and likely contacted a number of coaches from the 60s and 70s. Yeah, some are still kicking.

It was a good attempt on the part of the YDR. And I think the paper has acknowledged that any "best athlete" list is going to be highly subjective and equally imperfect.

Sad part is, that people care so damn much about it.

So your name was left off....WHO CARES!! Get over it, bunch of whiners if you ask me.

If you're life's worth is measured by whether or not you made the lil ole YDR's suggestive and subjective list....then you lead a sad, sad life.

Anyone who whines is a loser, and in a way shows they never really deserved the list in the first place.

A true athlete understands that athletics aren't the end of the world.

Just opening a can of worms! Maybe we could have a series on the girls with the nicest tits in every schools district. Old pictures mandatory. Only participants allowed who did not have enhancements. About as stupid as this move.

Ben Murphy rushed for 2500 yards! He must have been playing against a bunch of slow white boys. Ben still has mad skillz in all sports and may be in the Top 10 of all PA state athletic studs. He also is a Top 5 trash talker with a rapier wit that I have personally witnessed with much amusement. He also throws memorable parties for his friends. Ben and Mukie also can spread some watertight sealant. FREE MUKIE! FREE MUKIE!!!

Maybe the reason he was not picked is because he was so full of himself. He didn't even enter the huddle on a timeout. Had to be 20 yards away so everyone would notice him. Never forget those moves. Karma!

1986-87 District 3 football champions. Randy Nelson running back against Susquehanna Township 1986 Double-A championship. Only York Suburban team to win the District Championship. Played against a blue chip running back and held to under 100yds. Check Susquehanna Township stats in the season games vs champioship game. Then check Randy Nelson's stats both ways all season and the championship game stats. Check Track and Field stats and up date your top 10.
