It is an NCAA rule that "Seniors' can only play in two all-star games, but they can play in as many shootouts as they want. The NCAA decided to limit Seniors to only two all-star games because a player once abused the free benefits to attend all-star games throughout the country and never graduated from high school to attended a college university that year. He just went around the country for free playing in all-star games. NO MORE OF THAT. Two games per high school Senior. Chose your all-star games wisely.

"Its that time of the year again! The National Letter of Intent (NLI) regular season signing dates are approaching us fast. The period starts April 13 and ends May 18th, 2011.

What does this mean for Seniors? It means that if you plan on playing at a D1 or DII program in the fall and would like to receive an athletic scholarship, you must sign the NLI within the period. If you do not sign the NLI by the 18th of May for basketball, you will not be able to receive athletic scholarships from a D1 or DII program. You will be able to receive other financial assistance related to academics and financial aid."

What is the National Letter of Intent (NLI)?
The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and a NLI member institution
* Prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters)
* Institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters)

Basic penalty for not fulfilling the NLI agreement: Serve one year in residence at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports.
Worth re-reading because today, April 13th, 2011 the National Letter of Intent signing period starts today and ends May 18th, 2011.

We are going to tell you all a story about a kid in Chambersburg and why its so important that we do what we do on "Basketball Season Update in Chambersburg". In the fall of 2010, there was this kid who "was" once a bright and very talented basketball player. The kid was a good student and was fairly liked by most students at their school. In the winter of 2010 as the basketball season began, the kids English teacher informed all of students in the class that a certain school was offering a scholarship based on the parent's income. The kid saw it as an opportunity and got a scholarship application from the teacher and brought it home for their parents to fill out. The scolarship was for a four year institution and paid the full tuition for four years if the child qualified. That's full tuition! The kid took the scholarship application that they got from the school and had their parents fill it out and had three people fill out recommendation forms. The child had the school Principal, his school basketball Coach, and a pretty well-known Community Youth Organizer fill out their recommendation forms. Now, the four year scholarship was based on the kids parent's income. The father works in the community and has Cancer, the mother does not work because she has a serious case of Multiple Sclerosis. The child thought that they was doing something good by applying for a scholarship to help their parents. And the kid financially had a pretty good opportunity to qualify for the four year scholarship. At the same time, the kid's parents were sending letters out to other schools for scholarships, as well.

We will finish this story later, because "suicide" is perhaps a major lesson that we all can draw from it, moreover, what some "adults" in positions of authority are allowed to do to our children in this community really needs to be exposed. Keep reading!

Congratulations to the Chambersburg Area School District Foundation for awarding $166,300 in scholarships to all deserving students that attend high school in our area. Congratualtions to all scholarship recipients! Moreover, special congratulations and shout out to Kayone Teal and Jade Flory on being selected this year as the Ed Latch Memorial Scholarship recipients for their continued education after high school. Scholarships are funded annually by the Ed Latch Memorial Elementary Tournament and the Ed Latch Family to Chambersburg Seniors involed in basketball and headed for further education. Great job on behalf of the Latch Family and the community, as well.

Congratualtations also to The Lady Sharks 13U AAU Team - Jenn Grove, Kaitlyn Rush, Mercedes Rideout, Jenay Faulkner, Lexi Rothermel, Kate Gelsinger, Hannah Crist, Jane Herman and Couch Brad Rideout - for their victory in the GBA Pink Zone Classic in Pittsburg, PA over the Memorial Day weekend. The Lady Sharks were champions of the second braket at the GBA Pink Zone Tournament. Great job! We talk about AAU and the "ballers" and Coaches do thier thing. We've seen Coach Rideout Coach at Chambersburg years ago and he seemed afraid to coach for some reason. The next season he was coaching at Geencastle High School, and he's always done well at coaching girls AAU teams. As a matter of fact, he inadvertently introduced us to PA Hoops and the importance of getting our kids in Chambersburg "exposure". "You never really know the effect you have on folks".
