On Mother's Day, some say it with ink

"Hey look, Ma. I got a tattoo." Not many mothers would be so proud to hear that, especially on Mother's Day.

You can't argue with honoring Mom, but tats are still gratutitous self-mutilation. They remain the marks of the lower classes. Law enforcement officers in many jurisdictions are required to keep them covered, and even the Marines don't like them. If you show up for an interview at any large sophisticated employer with exposed ink, it will work against you. If you have a statement to make, use your mouth and your mind.

im sorry for my last post,i have tattoo's and so does a lot of my family.having a tattoo dosent make you a bad person.lots of firemen and police have tattoo's and yes they may make them cover them but what jeff was saying is that tattoo's are for the lower classes.and for the marines, one of the most honarable things a young soldier can look forward to is earning the right to get the marine bulldog tattoo.i guess i think different then some people,it just seems many of the people that comment on this forum are either small minded,or just like saying things that they know will make people mad.we dont live in the 1950's its 2008 you would think people wouldnt still be so frightened by things that arnt of a conservative nature such as:tattoo's,peircings(sp?),ska teboarding, bmx biking, and other stuff.its like if your not like them they hate you.i dont hate people who are different than me and i think if we all would be like that this world be alot better.

I think most tattoos people seem to get are really lame. I obviously don't care what they do to their bodies but just because they like it doesn't mean other people will.

Excuse me 'Kilroy'!! Just because a female has a tattoo that is across their lower backs, does not make them white trash...it's how the person acts that makes them trashy, not a tattoo !! Here we go again ... more stereotyping, going by what others say or think, not knowing the person themselves. The name came from people who are jealous because they know it looks cute there and they don't have the guts to get one themselves, so they put it down. Mine is classy and anyone who does see it, wants one just like it, and they are not white trash as well !! Tattoos are beautiful !! Whereever anyone has them, because it shows a persons uniqueness !! If you choose to show your uniqueness in a certain way, I won't judge...so don't judge me or anyone else with beautiful tatttoos...no matter where they are located on the body !! If you don't like them, don't get any !!

Some of us create our own and have the artist bring it alive. They are not lame nor does anyone else have anything as unique. If you don't like them, you don't have to look. We don't get them for other people's approval. We get them because we want them.

Right on Common Tator !! And like I said in my other post, "Tramp Stamp" came from people who know that the tattoos in that area look cute but arent brave enough to get one themselves so they give them a bad name !! Tator's right, if you don't like it, don't look at them !! And don't judge us by our tattoos, especially when you don't know us !! They are beautiful in their own special ways !!

Everyone has their own unique way of expressing themselves. Some do it by putting others(and their ideas) down. Others do it by photography, painting, music, or some other form of art-such as tattoos. Just because someone makes one of these choices doesnt make them a bad person! they are just expressing who they are. Why can't people just except the fact that NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME!!!

when I said lame I'm leaning more towards roses with thorns, butterflies, chinese symbols, etc. memorium tattoos aren't bad. things that have a meaning are fine. I just don't like random shitts.

So why would butterflies and roses, or anything else for that matter, be lame...maybe they have meaning to the person who gets them no matter what the image. Just stop judging people and their tattoos, or anything about a person. To judge any tattoo (or anything about a person) is lame. I'm sure some things about you can be judged as lame...do you want people to judge you over something that you think is distinct about you ???

Tatoos like piercings are a way to express yourself.. I dont have any tatoos, but i do have some piercings. I dont see anything wrong with any of them. If i didnt hate needles so much,,I am sure i would have a tatoo or 2....

I'm convinced. Some people express themselves with lawn ornaments, some put astro-turf in the back of an el camino, some decorate their years with rusty vehicles up on blocks. It's all art. Nope, nothing trashy about that.

I think "to each their own". My Mother, Brother and fiance have a tattoo or tattoos. I myself don't have any tattoos and have no desire to have one, but that is my own personal opinion.
I just think it stinks that people (Age 16 (yes parents do sign for them) to age 21) get tattoos. I will say if a study is done at least 75%, if not more, will say they wish they would not have put it where they did, or they would have picked a different design or they would not have gotten it at all. Just like with the peircings (belly button, tongue, nose etc) visit them in 5 years and see if they still have it..bet they don't--but they will always have the scar from it. The "stretchers" (the things you use to stretch the skin around the periceings) if you want to look like that...good for you, but I will put money on it that in 5 years your not going to like having your ears or whatever other part of your body your currenlty stretching hanging down to your knees. I just wish people would think about stuff like that and to SERIOUSLY consider everything prior to doing things like that.
Some tattoos are awesome and a beautiful sight to see but think about it first--long and hard.
whatever

And what does this have to do with your comment about a tattoo that you think means that someone is white trash? People without tattoos can have the above items.I don't get how this has anything to do with insulting people with lower back tattoos ? I mean obviously your trying to be sarcastic with your last post--but it makes no sense!

The reason tattoos on the lower back got the name "tramp stamp" is because some people (the "tramp" in tramp stamp) wear their pants low enough to barely cover their a$$ crack so they can show off the tat. SOME of us have lower back tats and choose not to reveal them to the whole world by wearing a cheesy wardrobe.
