Price controls wouldn't help anyhow. I expect that the oil prices are so high because countries like China are buying so much oil, and probably buying into the future. The need it to continue their growth. We need independence, not price controls. Bob Burns wrote: <quoted text>Right! lets all embrace the wonders of socialism! Soviet States of America. Conserve, conserve, conserve, and see how quick the price declines, when all the oil producing countries, and suppliers have more than they know what to do with. O.K., so you say they will reduce their production, but also remember when they do, they also reduce their outlandish profits. Think smart, for a day, or a week, or a month, don't fill up at these prices. Buy only as much as you need to meet your demands for the day, week, or month. Did you ever take notice at the pumps, everyone if filling up, as if it is the automatic thing to do, and they don't want to shame themselves publicly by buying only a few gallons, or a few dollars worth. While we all think we are living the super rich life, the suppliers are laughing all the way to the bank, while we may have to consider going broke, or bankrupt. Dumb *** its cheaper to fill up. Just buy what you need for the week, and next week you get what you didn't get this week for 10 cents more a gallon. Some cure.

Rita Book wrote: <quoted text> Were do you get that information. Only illegal immigrants don't pay taxes. As for the high price of gas one just has to look east...far east. In the last 10 years China and India have both went from a nation of bicycles to cars. That is 2 BILLION more people wanting oil and gas. And neither country has its own supply so it must be bought on the open market. Also since the price of oil is traded in Dollars and the Dollar is week because of low interest rates to prop up the credit crisis. So to say it is the Republicans fault that gas at Rutters is $3.59 just goes to show how much you don't know. Rita you are absolutely correct about this there was a great National geographic article hell the whole magazine was about China and thats exactly what they said .

And then there's heating oil. The price rises will mean lots lots more fixed-incomers having to sell the house and move into old-age homes because they can't afford independent living. So independence is being lost here on two fronts. The oil industry posted a record $135 billion in profits last year. We're being gouged. We're being gouged bad. This is just another battle in the American class war and the oil industry execs started it. We need price controls to keep the trucks on the road and the elderly from losing their homes. So they can remain independent. It stills says "We, The People" on the Constitution, not "We, The Corporations."

Crude Oil is sold at auction on the free market. The price is what ever the market will bear. Just like Aunt Tilly's plates on E-bay. If no one wants them then they are worthless, even if she says they are worth $100. Conservation is important, but it may not keep the price down in the USA because China and India need it too. Even if we drill ANWAR it will be sold on the open market. However, alternatives will get a foot hold and who knows maybe in 50 years the oil kingdoms will be like old west ghost towns.

I don't care who is running, Demorat or republifool, we voters will all pick our savior and swear he or she will save the day, and straighten everything out, but mark my words, a week after they take office they will automatically go from being savior to the cause of all the problems. I don't care how wonderful a candidate you are in politics if you win,you lose.

Rebecca; Its brainless idiots like you and your way of thinking that got this country where it is. Your only solution is to get your party in control. Devide the masses! Forget about working together to solve problems. Problem solving is too difficult for folks like you. Don't need to read this garbage anymore. Ranting. You don't like Bush. You don't like Republicans. Democrats are bad too. Its all Bush's fault. We can agree on alot. Contrary to your guess, I am not Republican. I am Independent and have voted Democrat except for one local election. This year I may vote Republican. China and India could boom without us. Its a big world. Globalization, at least done poorly, is not a good thing. Its been done poorly by both parties, and neither party has enough political will or desire to do it right. Our political parties are all about themselves, not about the citizens. See, I can rant too. Actually you can thank your local tree hugging environmentalists and liberals. They are the dopes that have blocked drilling in the US for the past 30 years.

Just tell all the Congress to open drilling in Alaska that will give us oil for 200 years that should be just enough time for the government to figure what to do .

ANWR in Alaska contains only 6 billion barrels of potential oil. If it was used in the US, along with other sources, it might last 12 years max. And it would take years before we even saw a drop, if ever. Most Alaskan oil goes to Asia because of the logistics problems. And with their increasing consumption patterns, it would deplete in even less time.
We've got to look to alternatives to petroleum. There's no other choice. It's a finite resource and will deplete eventually, and according to the peak oil analysis, very soon. Considering our present consumption patterns, a child born today will probably die in old age in a world with barely any oil left.

Bush to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve because of high oil prices. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman says the U.S. should have a 90-day supply of reserves for emergency oil in the event of a supply disruption. An AP article from yesterday states nearly two months of oil imports. The article also gives a reason. "Bush has refused to do so, arguing that this small amount of oil won't impact prices and that for security reasons he wants to increase the stockpile to its full capacity of 726 million barrels. It now has about 701 million barrels, equal to nearly two months of oil imports."
