Oh dear, Sillanpaa, you are so pure, intelligent & noble. We all should worship at your feet.

However, my children go to that school & yours do not. I don't want some 17 year old "editor" being the ultimate decider of what is smut or art.

The school district should simply stop the newspaper until the children there learn to live by the rules. Wouldn't that be a useful lesson to learn?

Pity you had to procreate.

We are grooming these kids to grow up and be adults, yet you are acting like a child yourself, proof that the system doesn't work. This is a piece of art, and if people aren't mature enough to see it as that, then they should put down the paper and not read it. Instead of being a Nazi and banning the paper, why don't you sit down with your kids and TALK to them about it. Ask them how it makes them feel (from the sound of your comments, my guess will be "ashamed"), talk to them about WHY you feel it's inappropriate and let them decide for themselves. Here's a hint: they don't magically go "poof" at 18 and act like adults, you have to PREPARE them from 14-17. And by prepare, I mean open their minds and let them make their own choices, not use your closed mind to make descisions for them.

Part of grooming kids manifests itself by controlling what kids are exposed to. Both good and bad things.

Too many parents today call their slack approach "grooming" when it's actually child neglect.

A parent's responsibility of helping kids become adults starts when the kids are born not when they're 14 years old. That's 14 years of neglect.

Yes, I do, and teach them how to kill innocent people with sniper rifles by way of a video game and find free porn on the internet and (worst of all) I teach them to make stupid comments here.

14 is the optimal age for them to be looking at being an adult more than being a kid, up until that point you imprint values and morals so that when they hit 14ish you can begin to prepare them for the adult world in such a way that they will actually UNDERSTAND what you are teaching them.

Yes, protecting your children from bad things is a must, and I also agree that the slack approach is bad. I do take an active part in my children's lives. I TALK to them about things like this. I teach them not to be ashamed of nudity for nudity's sake, and teach them the difference between art and porn. Something that most of the whiners don't do, they "knee-jerk" and call any nudity porn because they are so repressed they can't see daylight. There is nothing "bad" about that picture, in fact, opening a discussion about it is the best thing it could have done. Just being a sheep and doing what you are told is the only "bad" thing here. Question authority! Don't drink the Kool-Aid!! Be your own person!!!

Good judgment is the ability to make good choices or decisions. A valuable skill that many children do not learn. Parents can help teach their child good judgment by letting them make choices at a young age and then continuing this practice. Allowing your child more freedom in decision making as they mature. Talk about the consequences of certain decisions and share your opinion. Then let your child decide. Even if their choice isn't what you would want they need to learn to accept the consequences of their decisions.

Jeff E...I don't guess it matters that I didn't ask you to worship at my feet, does it? Some of us care about Eureka High School because we attended EHS or had kids attend or because we pay taxes to support EHS. We can say whatever we want while you do whatever you need to do to raise your kids the best way you can. If that gives you the urge to worship at somebody's feet...great.

Im not oppresive or repressed hell I love porn, but come on these are are school kids Ive never seen anything like this when I was in school and knowing how my mind works we are creating worse and worse generations And Im not a bush or war fan I just see the whole picture and how the world gets worse and worse with every generation .Make the kids work for there porn, thats what we had to do as kids. Do we really want them to buy into the "Good grades=good jobs" myth? Do we want them to believe that the goal in life is to acquire more and more stuff to fuel consumerism? Or should we give them more reflective, unstructured time in childhood to find out who they are, what they like, and how they can contribute to their communities?

Censorship is oppression, pure and simple, the Nazi's did it, the Communist Russians did it every oppressive dictator uses it as a tool to control thoughts and actions. This is America, hate it as I do, I love the fact that I can say what I want and think what I want, a value I have passed along to my children. By saying that it should not apply to citizens simply because they are no yet 18 is discrimination pure and simple. Like I've said, 18 isn't a magick age when all of a sudden people think like adults.

As for the repression, glad to hear you give that right hand a good work out, too bad you see this art as porn and want it made hard to get. Maybe repressed is the wrong term, narrow-minded, logically stunted, educationally deficient.....

Hey #1 im left handed and #2 I dont cosider myself narrowminded but putting this stuff out there is not giving people with kids the right to say what they want there children to see.And I dont see it as porn but when you give people an inch they take a mile and kids at that age are very impretionable If you cant see just how f-ed up the world gets everyday then you my friend are blind.You make it sound as if parents shouldnt care what there kids see,is that right?
