It seems that one should think twice about letting any tribal owned company work on your property. Beware and check to see who owns the company before you use them. Shame on the Blue Lake Rancheria.

When the tribe acquired the business it did not look into the existing contract with customers. It seems the tribe did not look into the background of the business and possible defects with prior customers. In this event buying up a business and finding there was problems with the previous contractor, the tribe as good faith should have remedied the problem to build its reputation as good business practices. Having to go to court just puts a sour note on the future of the business and what customers will have to face if they use their services. BAD BUSINESS!!!

Why is it that they always choose the low road and hide behind "tribal soverignty"? They acquired a business off of tribal land, so they should have to run it as other businesses have to run. Same rules. Same obligations. But, no, instead of doing this voluntarily, Blue Lake chooses to deny any responsibility and again make themselves and other Indian run businesses look bad. Why would anyone want to do business with them if they are always going to hide behind "tribal soverignty" whenever there is the slightest problem?

if you bought out a business would you want to pay for the mistakes not made by you? i'm going to guess there aren't many businesses out there that would pay for anything if they absolutely did not have to, especially for high dollar cases. whether that helps or hurts their business is what they are gambling on.
what exactly is the tribal sovereignty being applied to: any and all building defects from before they bought the company or any and all effects at any time? in either case, the home owner probably shouldn't have just run to court and tried to solve it like a real human being and not litigious slime. |

only because they have to. do you think a nontribal company would if they were not obligated to do so? honestly? it may not be the most ethical thing in the world for the tribe to do, but this is business, as long as it's legal it's fair game. sucks for the consumer though.

The blanket of Tribal Sovereignty IS being abused quite often, since the acticle leaves out a lot of information, such as, did the homeowner approach the Tribe and get told piss-off or was she coached by someone thinking "Woe is me, my pain and suffering...I need hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation?" or can you fix my house? Reguardless of who owns the company, it falls squarely upon the contractor who did the work, that's what the bond is for, that's why they have liability insurance. Sounds like it was an attemop to dig for gold from a casino operating tribe.
But it's funny how everyone take a different spin on the same story. |

My 2 cents: When you look at the history of this nation you would accept "tribal sovereignty". It is the least this country can do to pay back Native Americans.
Back to the article. I wonder why didn't Carls talk to the Rancheria to begin with? It may be that the article was poorly written - most likely. But it sounds to me that when she found out that the prior company was bought out she went straight for the lawsuit. I'd like to see if she tried to deal with the Rancheria before going to court. And I agree that the Rancheria would most likely not honor any work that was done by a company before they acquired it. they may have deep pockets, but for how long do we realistically expect them to honor those contracts? |

Whether it's blue lake or trindad racheria, they like to hide behind the sovereignty to abuse their power and mostly abuse individuals, workers and businesses which means local people.
You Indians are doing the same stuff what whitemen did to you 100 years ago. Is this what you call eye for eye. at least ,get your young ones educated, stop causing so much problems by just handing them money |

I am so stinking sick of the "Blue Lake Rancheria"! Anybody who has worked for or with those awfull people know what's really going on! Arla would rob her own grandma's grave given the chance.

Arla Ramsey says she owns the Blue Lake Casino, and that she's the Queen of the Blue Lake Rancheria. Yet neither she nor any member of her family has a drop of Indian blood. Check it out at the DNA project. Her ancestry is anglo-saxon and nordic.
Some truly wicked, ugly 100% white people getting filthy rich behind a phony, entirely artificial tribe and criminally abusing the concept of tribal sovereignty for their own profit--that's the real story here. That, and the devastation they have wrought. |
