I'm guessing this jerk wad returned to El Paso because he stunk wherever he was and El Paso was the only place that would have him. Sounds like he fits right in there. NO offense to El Paso but your paper did hire him back.
Yea, why did he write TWO articles about the same concert? He couldn't edit the information into ONE single article? Why does the photograph have the wrong information about Carrie's opening song? Hands down Carrie does her job much better than this free ticket concert reviewer.

You're forming an opinon about a concert you did NOT attent AND calling those who did LOSERS? Guess you know what's next...You know what they say about people that ASSume, on second thought your PROBABLY don't. As for when can we see her dancing on a pole and collecting $1.00s? NEVER.
Your mom and sister own the pole and your dad loves his moneymakers too much to let it go..especially Friday night specials ...they go for pesetas instead of dollars.

Doug Pullen deemed it necessary to issue (2) different articles regarding Carrie Underwood's concert. Upon reading them, I found the following:

Carrie Underwood delivers 'OK' show to 6,700 at Don Haskins Center: PARAGRAPH 2
Her performance Tuesday night for a nearly packed house of 6,700 at the Don Haskins Center was not a great show. It was an OK show, but certainly not up to the level of many of the genre's more seasoned superstars.

Mechanical Underwood concert was just OK: PARAGRAPH 2
Her performance Tuesday night for a nearly packed house of 6,700 at the Don Haskins Center was not a great show. It was an OK show, more mechanical than magical; overreaching and underachieving.

Perhaps El Paso Times should look into the possibility that he is suffering from a multiple personality disorder.
My personal opinion is that this was a deliberate attempt to undermine her impending induction into the Grand Ole Opry this weekend with a scathing biased opinion.

According to a comment posted on this forum, his actions truly match his prejudiced views:

"Loved the concert give her a break she is just starting out and did a great job. I was sitting right behind reporter Doug Pullen who switched his front row seats after Josh Turner performed for seats higher up. He must have not been able to see the show as well maybe he should have stayed front row. I disagree with his review and feel the Carrie Underwood put on a great perfomance.."

El Paso Times shame on you. This is sloppy unprofessional reporting at its best..and that's not a good thing. There are other remarks that can only be construed as vague and so pointless, but that will come later.

Reality check: Fans realize that after being on the road for such lengthy periods, artists will hit a bump in the their performance. Fans ALSO recognize when a performance is being railroaded with preconceived opinions. Why do we even have PAID reviewers anyway? Why not have interns from area highschools write reviews for extra credit?

"The charming young star who emerged on her 2006 tour with Kenny Chesney has been lost in the din of an oversized video screen, unneeded catwalk, awkward costume changes, routine audience patter and uneven pacing".

Exactly how many of Carrie's concerts have you attended to be able to make such an outlandish comment? You can't even seem to stay seated in your paid front seat in El Paso.

Most performers use oversized video screens; it's PART of the entertainment package that FANS expect and enjoy. UNNEEDED CATWALK? I must have missed the part in your article: El Paso native, music fan, glad to be home: where you MUST HAVE spent part of your life touring with a successful entertainer as a stage manager and handler. FANS enjoy it due to the fact that we get to see her up close, take pictures and load performances on YouTube. ROUTINE AUDIENCE PATTER? Are you saying you have witnessed ALL her conversations and they are ALL the same?

UNEVEN PACING?
As opposed to what? even pacing?

These ridiculous and pointless comments are from his other article: Mechanical Underwood concert was just OK - El Paso Times.

Doug, YOU are overreaching underachieving, "OK".

"She'd be wise to study opener Josh Turner, the affable South Carolinian with the baritone. He's no Garth Brooks, but Turner has a calm, assured, easygoing presence. And he's got a batch of songs that reflect the life he values-- home, faith, family and the love of a woman (that was his wife, Jennifer, on keyboards)".

I am sure Josh would appreciate your backhanded compliment. CU fans LOVE Josh even though he's no Garth Brooks. But more importantly, Carrie has a batch of songs that HER fans love and can relate to--HOME (I Ain't in Checotah Anymore and Lessons Learned), FAITH (Jesus Take the Wheel and How Great Thou Art) FAMILY (Don't Forget to Remember Me and Small) and as for the love of a man (sorry, she doesn't have a hubby in the band, but she does have ACE¦...and WE can relate to THAT.

"The 25-year-old singer with the herculean voice sounded strained -- and was sucking down a lot of water -- in the show's rocked-out but mostly lackluster opening section. It got stronger as the show progressed".

She’s a spokesperson for Vitamin Water and what else would YOU have a singer “SUCK” down on stage to keep from getting dehydrated. Gee, her voice got STRONGER as opposed to WEAKER as the show progressed. That’s pretty awesome in MY book.

Your observations..not so much. Please try and expand your vocabulary before writing another review.

A perfect example was "Just a Dream," it might have resonated more with an Army town audience, especially since venue management said about 600 Iraq war vets attended. She never acknowledged it or dedicated the song to those special guests. Maybe she didn't know they were there. Maybe she couldn't or wouldn't depart from the script.

Instead of just writing such empty defamatory comments:

MAYBE since you were there you could have asked Carrie yourself. MAYBE you should have asked her handlers about the guests and if that particular song was going to be dedicated to them. EVERY song she sings feels like a heartfelt and personal dedication to her fans. MAYBE you could have obliterated such a social injustice by rewriting Carrie's script. MAYBE you could have written a THIRD review of her concert. MAYBE you can get them to dedicate their ENTIRE next concert to ME while you’re at it!! Anything is better than just making such a blanketed accusative statement

Carrie has traveled to Iraq to entertain our troops...what have YOU done?

Also from his other article Mechanical Underwood concert was just OK.

A pre-Mother's Day dedication of "Don't Forget to Remember Me," a song inspired by her own mom (which brought her to tears when she performed it in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago), would have been a nice touch. Instead, she introduced it by saying how much she appreciated the fans "for giving me a job," which she probably says every night.

Were you there to hear her sing or cry. What's wrong with the introduction to that song? Would you like to rewrite that for her, too? Her FANS appreciate being acknowledged and take it to heart, no matter how, what or when.

FYI: It is a JOB - a real JOB- and I understand why you cannot relate to that.

So, you ASSume that Carrie probably says that every night?
Her FANS are AWARE of the fact that particular song was inspired by her mom. We don't NEED to hear her say it every night so that YOU can have something to write about in your review. Instead, Carrie showers her FANS with a verbal showcase of her appreciation for being able to have a stage to sing an endearing song about her mom. Seems like you missed the train a long time ago. We love it when Carrie gives us a constant shoutout that ..She Has The Best Fans In The Universe. But than again you would probably comment..WHY DIDN'T CARRIE USE THE WORD GALAXY INSTEAD OF UNIVERSE..OH THE INJUSTICE OF IT ALL!!!

I'm not sure what point you are trying to get across by condeming her great performance. Carrie Underwood rocked the show that night . Some critics such as yourself should learn alot about critzing other performers. Carrie Underwood sounded very genuine and she appealed more to the crowd than Josh Turner did. Therefore, you shouldn't be so harsh on such a talented singer. I'm sure that you yourself would not be able to pull off a show like that. So you shouldn't be condeming someones hard work and achievements.

My login, TxCuFan, should not be taken as an inference that I am OBSESSED with Carrie. All the more reason to have included the following disclaimer before posting any comments:

Reality check: Fans realize that after being on the road for such lengthy periods, artists will hit a bump in the their performance. Fans ALSO recognize when a performance is being railroaded with preconceived opinions. Why do we even have PAID reviewers anyway? (Post 66)

That was meant to be an explanatory statement prior to my comments.

Neither should the QUANTITY of comments written be considered a reason to conclude that I am obsessed with ALL who do not share my "obsession".

Once again, my reason for posting was prefaced by the following comments:

El Paso Times shame on you. This is sloppy unprofessional reporting at its best..and that's not a good thing. There are other remarks that can only be construed as VAGUE and so POINTLESS, BUT THAT WILL COME LATER.(Post 66)

There were many instances in which any artist's name could have been substituted for Carrie's name due to the fact that he was not commenting on her singing. Instead he was interjecting his personal views and opinions that had nothing to do with her performance AND expanding on his redundant opinions.

Here are just a few examples:

A pre-Mother's Day dedication of "Don't Forget to Remember Me," a song inspired by her own mom (which brought her to tears when she performed it in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago), would have been a nice touch. Instead, she introduced it by saying how much she appreciated the fans "for giving me a job," which she PROBABLY says EVERY night.(Post 73)

...UNNEEDED catwalk, awkward costume changes, routine audience PATTER and uneven pacing".(post 67)

Maybe she couldn't or WOULDN'T depart from the script.(post 72)

"She'd be wise to study opener Josh Turner, he's got a batch of songs that reflect the life he values-- home, faith, family and the love of a woman (that was his wife, Jennifer, on keyboards)".(post 68)

To conclude, perhaps if he hadn't written numerous negative articles about the SAME concert, I would not have reciprocated with my own rebuttals.

The only thing that I do apologize for are the subsequent double postings that occurred under my login.
