Planned border wall blocks Tiguas from sacred grounds

Proposed border fencing in El Paso could cut off the Tiguas' access to parts of the Rio Grande the tribe has used for centuries to conduct sacred ceremonies.

Did it ever occur to those who oppose the border fence that it wouldn't be necessary to construct it, IF the
Mexican Government would take the INITATIVE, get off their complacent duff and patrol their own borders. They do nothing except sit back, do virtually nothing for their people and expect the USA to do everything for them so that in turn the USA becomes the bad fellow and a whipping post for those living in border cities. Totally repugnant yet Mexico continues with their indifferent attitude.

Mexico is not indifferent but they make more money in mordida by helping the smugglers of humans, drugs, and other contraband than Mexico pays in salary. Frankly Mexico would be glad if all their crimminals, and poor people streamed over the border to the US because that means fewer they have to contend with in MX.

As for the Tiguas,,sorry folks but National Security is more important than your religious ceremonies. By the way, Just what ceremonies are you talking about? Everytime the Tiguas burp the Times is there with cameras to record the moment and in 30 years the only thing involving you and the river that I have ever seen is your participation in the "April Thanksgiving party" reenactment........an event best ignored since it celebrates the Conquistadors and Priests forcing your people into slavery.

I have a hard time with the Tigua's not realizing that the river is not reservation and they have no say.
I wrote a paper for UTEP in the 70's after interviewing T. Diamond, and the chief then with much research and found that the Tigua's cannot be traced back 300 years.

The Tiguas (Tihuas) and the Isleta branches of the Pueblos in the Santa Fe area betrayed their brethren in the Pueblo nation in 1680 when the Pueblos successfully revolted against Spanish domination. The Spanish and their Tigua and Ysleta traitors Pueblos retreated to the El Paso area for 12 years until Spain could complete the "Reconquista" and move back to northern New Mexico. The Tiguas and Ysletas knew they would always be considered traitors in the Pueblo nation, so they did not go back to Northern New Mexico after the Reconquista.

What the Tiguas and Ysleta Indians really are, are squatters on what was once Spanish territory. 300 years of occupation does not necessarily sanctify and elevate the terrain to "sacred grounds."

We are not "walling, fencing " ourselves in, the wall/fence is to keep ILLEGAL Mexicans, Hondurans, Iranians, Egyptians OUT. It may not be the best thing, but it will certainly help. Just the fact that people like YOU, the Mexican Governemnt, the Drug Dealers and some U.S. politicos, don't like the walls/fences, means they WILL do a good job at keeping YOU out.
