Not surprised..the Ethics Commission is comprised of all of Flatto's friends. There's no justice in America anymore.

Anyone who knows anything about Fairfield - which, sadly, is not many considering ConPost's lousy job of reporting and editing local news - knows the so-called "ethics commission" is concerned with two things and two things only - protecting the exposed backsides of the politicians who appointed them and protecting the phony and false image of clean and honest government in Fairfield. The commission does the latter to protect home values in Fairfield (God help us if the "wrong people" can afford to buy a house here!) and really doesn't give a rat's behind whether anyone is corrupt or not - all they care about is whether news of corruption reaches the real-estate buying public (no worries there with the compromised editors and lazy, go-along-to-get-along reporters at ConPost.) I think Concerned Citizens, the group that brought the complaint against Flatto, has finally exhausted all of its local options to bring justice to Ken "Skippy" Flatto, a criminal who stole gasoline from the Fairfield Police Department and who was never punished for doing so. Thanks to ConPost's compromised editors and lazy reporters, we still don't know today whether Flatto is still stealing gas, how much he stole, whether he ever reimbursed taxpayers and why he was not arrested for this crime. Flatto's other, ahem, questionable behavior also goes on without mention by ConPost, such as Flatto's son, Michael, landing a paid internship with a construction firm that Flatto hired to manage $200 million worth of capital projects in Fairfield. From what I've been told, Michael Flatto was paid a few thousand dollars for a few weeks of work despite having absolutely zero interest in construction. Do you think Michael took a slot that could have gone to a Bridgeport kid who was genuinely interested in pursuing a career in construction? Highly likely, in my opinion. And then, when the construction firm bungled the job at Tomlinson Middle School, Ken "Skippy" Flatto issued not a peep of protest, despite a $3 million cost overrun and opening day being delayed by more than a week. I'd say Skippy was compromised by his conflict-of-interest (don't bite the hand that feeds your son), but the "ethics commission" undoubtedly would have found "no probable cause" in that case either, which is why I didn't bother to file a complaint. We can only hope that Concerned Citizens brings this action before an impartial Bridgeport Superior Court judge who couldn't care less about home values in Fairfield or the phony image that masks all of the corruption that goes on in this town. What's really sad is that most people who live in Fairfield are honest and decent, if not terribly informed, but the people who run the town are the bottom of the barrel.

The real question in this case, which the Ethics Commission and this article did not address, is whether Mr. Flatto abused his authority in removing Conservation Director Thomas Steinke from his oversight job at the Fairfield Metro Center. This article is also incorrect when it says that the Conservation Commission endorsed Mr. Flatto's decision. What actually happened is Mr. Flatto removed Mr. Steinke and then sought a vote approving what he had done from the Conservation Commission during a closed-to-the-public meeting last December. The Conservation Commission, to its credit, refused to approve or endorse what Mr. Flatto did during that meeting. It's a shame that the Connecticut Post did not do any digging at all on this story and simply relied on Mr. Flatto to give them the facts.

Hi, what a shame Fairfield had its time was wasted by such a frivolous, unwarranted ethics complaint. People in town know that Fairfield's leaders are incredibly honest and trustworthy. We can only hope that these few disgruntled misguided individuals who have written such bogus and wrongful complaints and letters feel some guilt for wasting taxpayer dollars and time.

How sad and low that someone is attacking Flatto's son untruthfully. IS this what rabid hateful politics has come to?

Once again, we thank the CT Post for making Flatto & Co. look like little angels while helping him to belittle and silence his honest opposition at the same time.

I agree about Flatto not wasting taxpayer dollars. Matter of fact, they are so tight with the taxpayer dollars it took them over 5 years to unclog the storm drain/sewer in front of my house, and my cellar hasn't flooded since.

I'd bet dollars against doughnuts that Ken Flatto is the author of this post. Mr. Flatto has a tendency toward hyperbole that is easily spotted. When he's not engaging in absurd hyperbole, he's flat-out lying. The poor fellow knows no other way to communicate. Let's hope Concerned Citizens takes this complaint where it belongs - Bridgeport Superior Court. Mr. Flatto is the most dishonest politician I've ever come across and has absolutely no respect for the law.

That's a fact! Just ask any of the numerous developers who have had applications pending before the Town Planning and Zoning Commission. They know if they want Ken "My Hand's Not Out for Shaking" Flatto's support, they got to open up that checkbook. The 2011 election is still three years away, but it's never too early! Interesting that you claim the post that mentioned Ken "Skippy" Flatto's son was untruthful when you do not identify anything in the post that was false. Your use of the word "attack" also was interesting in that I only identified that Michael received a paid internship with a construction company doing $200 million worth of work for the town and that his father, Ken "Skippy" Flatto, failed to issue a peep of protest when that company botched the renovation job at Tomlinson Middle School. What is "rabid" and "dishonest" about that? Is it fair that Michael, who has absolutely no interest in construction, took an internship position that could have gone to a young man or woman who needed the money and who was genuinely interested in a construction career? Based on your dishonesty, selfishness and ignorance, I'd say you're the quintessential Ken Flatto supporter. Now put another ice cube in your glass of Kool-Aid and drink away, my friend!

My message to Ken "Skippy" Flatto is: Stop the trash politics! You apparently have confused writing about trash politics with trash politics itself. Ken "Skippy" Flatto is s fine practitioner of the art of "trash politics" and it's not trash talk when people point it out.

Tight with taxpayer dollars?! Have you seen the contracts that Ken "Skippy" Flatto and Mary Carroll-Mirylees, the unqualified director of the Town Human Resources Department, negotiated with the unions representing government employees? I'd say laziness and ineptitude are the reasons you waited so long - not respect for taxpayers' dollars. The DPW workers would have unclogged your storm drain sooner but it takes a crew of five about seven days to replace a light bulb in Town Hall.

I'm figuring out that some of Ken's friends and appointees, i.e. Jen Carpenter wrote one of these posts protecting her boss or better yet, it was probably Ken, the King of Spin himself. But what do you expect from a guy who bankrupt the City of Yonkers when he was its Comptroller? Ken Flatto as we all know is an incurable narcissist with constant diarrhea of the mouth who will say anything to keep getting re-elected. He's got four kids in college and you know how much college costs these days and having a government job that pays $120,000 isn't a bad way to pay for school. Ken Flatto is a corrupt Yonkers pol who fashions himself as a visionary; a First Selectman who builds consensus at every opportunity.
If the prospect of McCain/Palin at the helm made most Liberal Dems have heart palpitations......what does his continued time as our First Selectman do to our town?

It's quite apparent to me that Ken "Skippy" Flatto authored the post that claims the town administration is "incredibly" honest and ethical, etc. First, the author begins his post with an insipid "Hi," which is the sort of unnecessary salutation that Flatto used to address critics on the "What's Up Fairfield?" Web site. Then Flatto goes on with his typical hyperbole ("incredibly") and dishonesty ("honest and ethical government") before concluding that taxpayer dollars were wasted by the investigation into him. Well, Skippy, I'd say taxpayer dollars were wasted when you pumped free gasoline into your personal car at the Fairfield Police Department's gas pumps! How often did you fill your tank at taxpayers' expense? Are you still doing it? If not, when did you stop? Did you ever reimburse the town? Where is your concern over that waste of taxpayers' money? I'd say taxpayer dollars also were wasted ($3 million for those scoring at home) when your son received a paid internship at a company overseeing $200 million worth of construction work for the town. How were taxpayer dollars wasted by that? Glad you asked, Skippy! Because the cost overruns and delays at Tomlinson Middle School took place after your son got that job (despite having zero interest in construction.) I further suspect that Ken "Skippy" Flatto is the author of that post because Flatto's thin skin is well known (just ask the town historian, who was visited at her home by Flatto after she wrote a letter-to-the-editor that was critical of him or ask the elderly former Conservation Commission member at whom Flatto screamed in public when she wrote a critical letter to the editor.) I also believe Skippy is the author of that post because he's a control freak who will brook no dissent (for evidence that Flatto is a control freak, ask former town building committee members; for evidence that Flatto brooks no dissent, check the "letters to the editor" pages a few days after any criticism of him appears. You'll find letters from Flatto; Tom Bremer, Flatto's partisan and incompetent chief of staff; Paul Hiller, Flatto's unqualified chief fiscal officer; and other assorted Flatto lackeys.)Unfortunately, Ken "Skippy" Flatto will continue on as first selectman because of compromised editors at ConPost, laziness of ConPost reporters and Flatto's chronic lying and utter disregard for the law. It's interesting to note that the former City editor at ConPost was the one who approved the story about Flatto stealing gasoline from the town and took a hard line against corruption and dishonesty by Flatto, but the current City editor appears to be an unabashed Flatto supporter. Whether Flatto has something on him or he is simply a cheerleader for Flatto because of Skippy's party affiliation can only be addressed by him. But it is quite clear that aggressive coverage of Skippy is non-existent at ConPost and the residents of Fairfield are the ones who suffer. It's a shame when journalists allow themselves to be compromised professionally and do not adhere to the responsibilities and obligations of their job. But I do welcome Skippy to this forum and hope he will answer the questions posed about his gasoline stealing, since it is apparent to me that ConPost will never pose them. As for Flatto being the "King of Spin," that is only because ConPost's compromised editors and lazy reporters allow him to get away with it.

For all Ken's high-minded talk of an honest and open government, why does he hire Lauren Fischel Lanham, daughter of Fairfield developer Hal Fischel, to work in office?
The real shame here is the pathetic people at the Connecticut Post who call themselves journalists yet are truly surrogates for Kenneth A. Flatto.

The real losers here are the people of Fairfield.

I hope the people of Concerned Citizens will appeal the Ethics Commission's very flawed decision and keep fighting. Appointees and friends who Ken has packed the Ethics Commission with will always side with their leader, Ken Flatto who has led our town to very dark and unethical places.
I hope the Democratic party in Fairfield will chose someone else to run for First Selectman in two years. They have plenty of viable options within their own party and shouldn't have to deal with Ken Flatto's Yonkers-style politics anymore.

I agree with Joe the Democrat! I'm not on the DTC in town but have plenty of friends who are. I would personally lobby that they nominate someone else...there's Mike Tetreau who has served on the Board of Finance and others who don't always follow the party line and do what is in the best interest of our town. It's only people like Judy Ewing, Cathy Albin, John Mitola, Doug Jones, Bob Greenberger and Heather Dean who are true disciples of Ken Flatto and do everything that he asks them to do. Ken Flatto and DTC leader Mitch Fuchs are almost running a Jonestown at Town Hall..do what I say or pay for it.

Fairfield wasn't always this crass and political. Unfortunately, Ken Flatto has so politicized this town that people dislike each other based solely on party affiliation. I think the reason Ken has done this is deep down he knows he is truly an incompetent and unethical person and the only way he can cling to power is to invoke "party loyalty" among simple-minded and easily-duped Democrats. Thinking Democrats know Ken for what he is - a lying, incompetent, fiscally reckless and unethical man who has no respect for the law. He has only been able to stay in power by appointing cronies and political opponents to fill important positions in town (the Ethics Commission is only one example) and by telling Democrats who have witnessed his true nature that they must support him out of party loyalty. Flatto is an absolute disgrace, and the sooner this town is rid of him, the better off we all will be.
