This is ridiculous! No wonder our youth is just staying indoors playing video games all the time- their silliness and imagination is being impaired by the overly PC world. Whatever happened to the days where kids could be kids. The name of the week was WACKY WEEK which I think is a great way to add fun to the classrooms. This country is slowly turning into a facist society with these people that do not allow children to enjoy the basic things we all grew up with. I support the principal 100% and I feel bad for her that something that was considered fun was considered so immoral to people that don't allow others to think for themselves.

It is funny how "Christian" conservatives complain about Political Correctness when it is inconvenient for them, yet demand full PC when it comes to their "values". It is time to wrestle the Republican party away from these religeous nuts. Frankly, the behavior of many of these nuts is embarrasing both as a Republican and as a Christian.

Christian fundamentalists just can't get it. They would rather all kids be brought up as narrow minded stifled drones. "Wacky week" appears to be meant to give a little respite to convention and allow the kids to be creative and have fun. Believe it or not this is what build character and creativity for the future.

Jesus could care less about elementary school children dressing up for a school day. He would be more concerned with their souls. Jesus always drew closer to those who were not accepted by society. Mary Magadeline, Zaucheus, Luke, Matthew. I guess their Bible doesn't have those passages, because they sound like Pharisees, condemning to seem holy. "having a form of Godliness, but denying its power, turn away from them." 2 Tim 3:5

I agree it was an over reaction; and that kids need to explore through imagination and role playing. It is a shame this week has been stifled.

That said ... I do understand the reaction, although wrong ... with the homosexual demands recently ... pushing homosexual teachings on second graders in some instances.

The themes of Wacky Week were suggested and voted by the students; evidently the elementary school children saw no problems when they think about "dress like the opposite gender." It sounds more a hang-up of adults. Plus the school sent home fliers to inform the parents of this event the week before. Surely if any of the parents from the school objected, he/she would have called the principal and make it known. Instead it was the listeners of a Christian radio station that raised the objection. I wonder how many of these objectors have children going to that school? How many of them even live in this community? Why couldn't these grown-ups leave the kids alone and allow them to have some fun, be wacky and free of the fear of criticism? When next Halloween comes around, should we all chastise the droves of young girls dressed as football players and boys dressed as Little Bo Peep?

Do you have a Bible? Paul wrote a letter to the Romans condemning homosexuality. Moses wrote the laws of God condemning homosexuality. Jesus NEVER addressed the issue. But besides that, there is nothing in the Bible condemning dressing in wacky clothes. You shouldn't wear red though, that's in the bible.

"I can assure you we will not be having this day [again]," Hayes said.
That's right, bow to the crazies. Not one family in the district objected, but somehow it must be wrong.

In elementary school my son and his friends dressed as the Pointer Sisters for a talent show and for halloween one year he dressed as a woman. He is now 29, has two children and is very secure in his masculinity. Come on, who needs to grow up.

Crazy right wing conservatives will not be happy until everyone on this planet believes in their God, dresses, acts and has sex just like them. They will not be happy till we are all identical little drones with no minds of our own. They take things way too far & this is proof. Kids don't associate wearing opposite gender clothing (whatever that is) with being gay or transexual. They thinks it's fun and silly. When can we have childhood fun back??

Something like that should be reserved for Holloween. There are more appropriate ways of making education enjoyable.

Fortunately not all conservatives are nuts like these! This Wacky Week actually sounds like a great way to introduce fun into learning. When I was growing up, we had Crazy Hat Day. You can just imagine the silliness. Back then my sister and I never cut our hair, so we put on knit caps, and wove our hair out the back to look like beard/mustache, then attached the craZy glasses with the big nose, to make us "two faces". It was really fun. Wish those overly religious would just CALM DOWN.

Anyone catch the irony - the name of the radio show that complained is "CROSStalk"? Made me chuckle.

I can't believe no one has mentioned yet that virtually ALL crossdressers are married heterosexual men!

It's not a gay thing, except for a small minority.

In fact, I'll bet you at least a couple of the sanctimonious "Christian" men complaining about the situation are themselves crossdressers.

I have no problem with Wacky Week. Let's talk also about the intolerant left and how they forced the University of Illinois to get rid of Chief Illiniwek.

Christian evangelicals, like their Taliban cousins, are grievously damaged in their concepts of moral social threats and in their attempts to suffocate the lives of others. Those who rage at innocent children and detect depraved intent behind dressing-up silliness, raise by their narrow and immature religiosity the false and damaging thoughts that playing with gender stereotypes is somehow immoral. The poisoning of childrens' minds by the hysterical behaviour of these narrow people is shameful and the school should not acquiese to such backward and bigoted foolishness.
