A doctor punishing a patient for being late. What is the world coming to?

Thank you, Ms. Skol, for informing the public of the egregious actions of this physician. You are in good hands with Ms. Zellner.

I agree with "Mom" - Dr. Pierce's license needs to be suspended NOW.

We had a similar experience with a fill-in doctor at Northwest Community. It was our first child and this woman did nothing to comfort my wife and kept insisting that she needed a c-section because things "were not moving fast enough". This was after you could already see the head and see that it was moving in the right direction. I took her out in the hallway and told her to find another doctor to finish the delivery. Unfortunately for her, the baby came before the new doctor showed up. I guess things were moving fast enough.

Why not any stories about GOOD doctors? All the Trib prints are stories about terrible experiences, lawsuits, and other nasty stuff. How about the miracles that take place everyday at places like Comer Children's Hospital where they perform surgery on the heart's of one-day-olds?

I don't dispute that there are poor doctors, but there are people like this in EVERY profession. I hope that if these alligations are true, the doctor is reprimanded appropriately, and is not allowed to practice any more. He needs to find a new profession. By the way, you can't "fire" a doctor if they work independently outside of the hospital. They lose their "privileges" to practice at individual hospitals.

What I want to know is why Rush gives this guy privileges at their hospital if they don't condone his behavior nor have any control over it? If you allow someone to practice in your hospital, they follow your protocols or they find another hospital. Rush bears some of the responsibility here.

Sounds like this guy shouldn't even be starting IVs in a methadone clinic.

Poor Catherine...

Did get your pain meds...American women are such babies when it comes to giving birth.

There is ALWAYS enough time for pain medication. When you are trying without meds and and they need to take the baby fast by emergency C-section, what do they first do? THEY GIVE PAIN MEDICATION!

Don't let them tell you otherwise, but have this conversation BEFORE you have the baby.

I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between. Skol's story sounds like an embellishment.

This was most likely her first natural child birth. Watching two of my own, my "tough" wife fell apart during her labor transitions minus drugs or epidural. Why has every reader failed to realize these allegations have been sugar coated by an attorney with a simple goal in mind. The doctor was most likely trying do do his job (keep baby and mom healthy)under less than ideal circumstances (mom screaming **** about big pain, no drugs and a potential hemorrhage). No chance doctor pays a red cent in this case.

Absolutely sickening that this woman was treated this way.

Seems to be the trend in birthing, though: http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/

You obviously don't have much knowledge either... for one, they said "people" are a holes, not DOCTORS. And secondly, if electricians made anywhere near what doctors do, I would not be sitting at work right now because my boyfriend would be making more than enough for the both of us! And I find it extremely hard to believe that anybody would go 8 years with no vacation whatsoever...
Believe it. When you see people who can't or won't pay, you choose to pay your staff instead of going on vacation. See what Medicare pays a doctor, and you'll see what I mean. Also, I don't see electricians or plumbers doing work for FREE (and they don't get society's wagging finger either). Do you know of any, if so I have a lot of people who could use their FREE services.

I hope the doctor loses his license. There's no excuse for that kind of behavior.

There is a website called " ratemd.com " where you can spout off about the crappy care you received from your MD. I gave my OB/GYN a bad rating after the birth of my 2nd child as he was a total **** to me (I had the nerve to go into early labor on a Saturday and ruin his day). I hate that man and hope he dies a painful death one day.

Did you read that the doctor said "PAIN IS THE BEST TEACHER" Why does this freak have a medical license? This woman had four children/no problems. Why would the hospital have disciplined him if that was okay? Do you think it is okay to sit between her legs on a cell phone and talk about an abortion?! She is a Chicago cop - not too wimpy

"my "tough" wife fell apart during her labor transitions minus drugs or epidural"

You sound like such a sweetie. How about you push out the kid next time, huh, fella?

And no, the dr was not just "doing his job" by abusing her!!!

The point of the matter here appears not so much the lack of pain meds, but the willful actions of the doctor to make a patient suffer.

["I hope she does go ahead suing. AND I hope other moms start suing for other things too:]"
This attitude is why OB/Gyn MDs are leaving Illinois in droves. Their med mal insurance is just too high because of people like you who want to sue for everything.

Maybe if the hospitals/doctors did more to police themselves then the bad seeds would be removed then there would be fewer lawsuits. The hospital seems to be covering up.
