Who and what experience have you had there? When I was in High School there was a large abandoned house near a Dam outside of Carlsbad near Lake Avalone and Brantley Lake. We would use to go in a group of friends and the whole house had crazy graffiti and even a headless goat hanging from the ceiling. There is even a "Ses Pool" hole that one of my skinny friends would have pretty much fell thru but we seen it in just enough time he wouldnt fall through. And right across the house there is a Dam Control building. Me and some friends have taken some pictures there and one of our developed pictures had a face. I dont want to burst anybodys bubble but why do so many people go out there. What is the true story. I heard that Nazi's were held in this area but i think thats alot of bull. I went there about 2 yrs ago and there is a fence around the house now but you can still climb it. And yes we did and the house still looks the same. I wish I had the gps so other people could go take a look at it. If anybody would like to post directions by all means post it! I found this haunted places website and Carlsbad/Germantown is on it. here is the link.

The story about Nazi's in this area is to some extent true. They were German soldiers that were housed in a prisoner of war camp, which the old timers tell me was located close to where the hospital stands today. Some of the prisoners did farm labor in this area. The Current-Argus has over the years published several stories about the camp. It's well documented.

it's part of CID,i think it was the gate watchers house.
i thought the german prison camp was a little closer to artesia/atoka.i heard a story of a couple of inmates escaping and stealing clothes from a clothesline at one of the fannings farms where they were both shot dead.most didn't try to escape.the germans here were eating well.

I go there every so often, one way or another i end up taking people there who have never seen it. It is gated off still but i cut down some bobwire so it would be easier to climb. i have went in there both night and day. At night it feels very erie and every little noise you hear scares you. I walked in there at night once and saw a black cat walking around i thought that was scary. I took a picture of the black cat, and its face did not appear on camera even with the flash i thought that was kinda creepy. During the day when i have went in there i would hear creaks in the floor like someone other than who i was with was walking in there. I have taken pictures of it and never really noticed anything. My grandmother says when she went out there a long time ago, her dad told someone to go away, and to leave them alone. It was only them 2 there so, she tells me that he was telling spirits to go away.

My father tells me that he used to go fishing right next to those houses growing up (before the lake dried up) and he would tell me that the house was haunted then, and that often some sort of light would be in a window,(before they got boarded up).

If anyone wants to go there i do warn you to look at the trailor south of the houses because a game warden lives there and i am sure he wouldnt skip a beat in giving you a trespassing ticket. The property belongs to the federal government so defacing the building or destruction of property may have its consequences.

Back in the 60s the summer fog would drift through and hang low only around the house and the dam. Heard alot of crying and high pitched screams once or twice. The fish woud slosh around in circles when it got real spooky.

I realize this post came out March 4th 2009, But for some unknown reason you get this post.. Could you please tell what face you saw on the picture??? Many years ago we use to go fishing their at nights with my dad and grandma..And she told us some stories that were really sad. some thing happened there many years ago and some one died there.. If you tell me what the face looks like I will know if what my grandma said was true....pbwy
