Amato obviously dosent hang in my hood or deal with anyone I deal with. Oh, by the way the only vote I'd cast that involved Jeff Diamond would be
Guilty... the man is a lying, backstabbing slime.
Martin Mills is just plain nuts. And Janway does NOT impress me.

The only canidate that deals with me or my friends is Tom Mathis, and I don't endorse him. I simply state facts.

Carlsbad Current Argus Letter to Editor 2-12-10

I attended the mayoral forum and found the results were very telling. With the Forrest dynasty coming to an end it's time for Carlsbad to think about where we want to go in the future and who should lead us there.

In my mind there was just one candidate who could speak well to the issues, has compassion to care about our whole community rich and poor and has the time to devote her full attention to the task of making Carlsbad a better place and that is Wendy Amato.

Mr. Diamond seems to lack compassion and good sense as evident by his treatment of Mr. Guy Lutman and his letter to the governor and others who get on his wrong side. Mr. Janway runs away from the issues and can't seem to understand what is being asked of him and how to speak his mind without cue cards and prompting. Mr. Mathis plays the good old boy and is everyone's friend until their backs are turned. And Mr. Mills, what can I say, is laughable.

Wendy Amato is relatively new to Carlsbad but she and her husband, Paul, chose to live here above all other choices. They want to see our city thrive. It's time for new eyes to look at our situation and prepare a new path to success and move beyond doing things the same old way.

As Mr. Mathis pointed out, Carlsbad was once the third largest city in the state but we haven't grown for 20 years. No new business wants to come to a no growth area. It's time to do things differently. It's time to break through the calcified actions of the past and exercise some new insight.

As Ms. Amato said, she has the time to devote to governance while the other candidates can only be part time. She has been trained in the Navy to look at procedures and processes and find the inefficiency and eliminate it. She can do the same for our city.
Being a woman may make it hard for some men to vote for her but she's a military woman. She's strong, decisive, fair, compassionate, artistic and expressive. She has a woman's insight on issues and a deep understanding of how things work once explored.

It's time to clean up Carlsbad and make it ship shape. It's time for Wendy Amato as our mayor.

I totally agree with this post. Ms. Amato was the most professional person at this event. She has a lot of support and my vote.

Tom Mathis is a nice guy, but he is not the next mayor of Carlsbad.

I agree the Guilty as charged for Diamond. That dude is a loser. Janway has dropped out of the race. Wendy Amato is the only one who was tough enough to stand up to these insiders and she has out classed all of them.

Amato is a joke. No signs, come on. She is not going door to door. Janway, people for Mathis and People for Diamond have visited me at my home. They know that is takes getting out to speak face to face with the people. All three walked around our low income neighborhood and asked for my vote. Amato is like alot of young people these days, she and her bloggers sit around on there computers and types alot of promises. I'm voting for Janway, Diamond or Mathis because they get out in our mexican neighborhood and aren't afraid of us or too good for us. I specially like Mr. Janway, because he came out personally.
You are correct Wendy Amato has not visited Mexican neighborhoods in this election. I am not sure why Diamond and his people keep calling our Hispanic neighbors Mexicans? He did the same thing at a union meeting a few weeks ago and almost got tossed out. Janway is gone from this election, but maybe he is lost and campaigning in Mexico.

She has visited hundreds of Hispanic homes in Carlsbad, NM. Wendy Amato has visited homes in every Ward and she will be a great mayor for Carlsbad.

Or maybe she's just telling us what she thinks we want to hear and is keeping her personal agenda close to the vest until she's elected. Isn't that what politicians do?

Well i live in a not so nice neighborhood also, but i have yet to have any of them to come knock on my door. Altho, i will admit that i have been several places around town and it seems like most places i go Amato has been there outside talking to people. Janway-haven't seen him, Diamond-we've meet before, he didn't know who i was, Mathis-haven't seen him either. i can say that at least Amato has given me the time of day.
Wendy Amato has met hundreds of people living in Carlsbad. She will make a great mayor and is planning to work full time. No other person running for mayor is ready to work full time to fix our city.

People are not seeing Janway. Someone else posted, Janway is gone from this election, but maybe he is lost and campaigning in Mexico. The guy looks lost and was talked into running by other people.

Why has Ms. Amato taken off her website that she's a member of two anti-energy organizations?

So in case you didn't know Ms. Amato is a member of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance and the Chihuahuan Desert Conservation Alliance. Two organizations that have opposed drilling and thus opposed economic development in SE NM.

You say Ms. Amato is involved in some action or group that you do not like, then show the proof that she attended meetings, is an officer or official representative, engages in radical behavior. Your argument is weak. Ms. Amato has never engaged in radical behavior,...
If you are paying dues to be a member and you are getting the newsletter telling you that your group is suing people over environmental stuff for a fuzzy animal's rights or a pretty unblemished hiking spot, you are responsible for their actions as surely as if you are president of the organization! You want proof, google them. I did what KBR is Right apparently did. The two groups Ms. Amato belongs to are the plaintiffs in lawsuits (or notices to sue) responsible for millions of dollars in legal fees and hundreds of lost jobs.

Some other people blamed Wendy Amato for the destruction of environment on Guam and now your saying she is an environmental extremist. Others have liked her with the Nazi party and some have called her a Communist. These character attacks are an indicator that she has an effective message for Carlsbad and that the other people running for mayor would stoop to the level of animals to get elected.

Wendy Amato is the only candidate who has the courage, integrity, and commitment to be Mayor of Carlsbad.

Yet Ms. Amato didn't have the "courage" or "integrity" to be honest with the citizens of Carlsbad about the two anti-energy groups that she's a member of when she likened the two groups as mere "hiking groups".

Why is Ms. Amato trying to distance herself "now" to these two groups by taking them off of her website?

Where is Ms. Amato's "commitment" two these anti-energy groups?

Name calling doesn't counter the point brought up earlier. She is a paying member of a couple of radical environmental groups that are opposed to development and the oil and gas industry. The proof is on their websites.
.
.
I'm currently looking into a thread from a tech blog that indicates that the larger of the two environmental groups she belongs to may be anti-nuclear and is or will be fighting local efforts to expand WIPP so that it doesn't close in 15 years putting a bunch of us out of a job! If this is true, she belongs (pays) to a group which would actively oppose one of our greatest opportunities for this community to grow in the last 25 years! How would you like to have her headlining the effort to bring this project to fruition?
