"I was always told that people in our part of the world were God’s people."
That generation of mountain people are dying off now, the heirs to WNC are moving away.

The NIMBY crowd moved here from places where they could live for years so close to their next door neighbor that they could reach across the alley and shake their hand, yet never even knew their neighbor's name. The people of WNC always took care of others in years past.

I believe H4H is genuinely a good thing and can provide a needed step up to deserving and qualified people, but I am not in favor of creating “affordable housing” H4H communities.

I believe it is better to build H4H homes for eligible and deserving citizens as stand-alone homes nestled within existing communities. To do otherwise I think just creates the future shantytowns or barrios of poverty. I think it better, especially for the children of H4H households to live in a “neighborhood” of economic dispersion and role models. We’ve created enough “pockets of poverty” already through HUD and private initiative under the guise of doing “the right thing”.

As long as a neighbor respects my property and privacy just as I will respect theirs I don’t care what flavor they are or how much money they have in the bank. If they can’t keep up their property to the standards (not Sq Ft) of a neighborhood then either the house or its owners are in the wrong location.

The leaders of Asheville/Bumcombe County have a very goo opportunity to be a partner in a progressive method providing for for thr future. A planned community - one that provides for everyone, the worker, the professorial, the retired, children, and the student.
Th er is no reason that the worker should not live in close proximately to their work, shopping, whorish, and recreation.
The professional, retired and working class must learn to live together - they do in schools, places of worship, stores, and at the work place.
Where there is a will there is a way.
Survival in the future means that we must make many lifestyle and attitude changes.
