Wow, the supreme court actually upheld the constitution today. Can you believe they said it means what it says? We actually have the right to keep and bear arms without politicians telling us we aren't allowed to have them. This strikes down the D.C. gun ban so the murder rate there should begin to drop pretty soon. It's happened other places so watch for that statistic. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House or Socialists said today our country will be less safe because of today's ruling. I wonder what she will say when the violent crime rates drop in her state. Rejoice! It's a happy day for the constitution and for all of our rights!

Thanks Queen, I hadn't seen his thread. There are about 3 or 4 comments on the ruling and then it goes off into library story time and 9th street culvert business. I hope this thread can take over for the subject of the 2nd amendment.

I read the first 40 some odd pages.
The way Justice Scalia lamblasts Justice Stevens through out his opinion with a lot of wit and humor, made it seem like I was reading something I might've written myself.

A must read, better than anything on the NY Times best seller list.

Strange to see the courts do something that makes sense, isn't it?

And my apologies for getting the first thread off track :-)

If you keep giving goverment power to take or ban things that are your right through the constitution. Things will only go down hill in this country. If you think banning guns is the answer go find the topic i started a few weeks back about the japanese man who drove a truck into a crowd and stabbed people with a knife.

Should we have a safety lock on knifes or keep them disassembeled until we need to cut our steaks. This was a great ruling and i think it goes a long way towards making the constitution solid again.

That being said there are three branches of goverment for a reason and congress is in one of those branches they need to do the job they are sussposed to be doing and not let the judicial branch rule and make policy that they themselves should be able to come together and work on in unity.

Yes it's nice to see them do the right thing for a change.
I would have liked to see them all vote in favor of this though.

And we will forgive you for taking the other one off track;-)

Maybe most people agree with it? Not everything has to turn into an argument, you know! ; )

Nice to see one of our rights given by the Constitution upheld!

I think most average Americans do agree with it. But there are the vocal few like justice Stevens, and a hand full of the regular topix posters that just don't give a damn about the constitution.

Couple of my NRA buddies talking about people in DC dancing in the middle of the street firing their AK 47 and 50cal BMGs to celebrate. LOL.

In a way it would have been interesting to see how Justice would go about taking away all the guns in rural America and in our cities. They can't even take them away from criminals, which they could legally do.

They would not be so foolish to attempt to do that.
What they would do is make it illegal to manufacture and sell ammunition and reloading components. Would take some time but at some point all the firearms would be useless!

So the Supreme Court took away the right of a community to decide they don't want their gangs to be armed. What do you want to bet there will be more killing? Guess they want as many murders here as in Iraq.

You think by banning all guns that the gangs you talk about are going to have a change of heart and start following the rules all of a sudden and turn in all the weapons they have.
