The complexity of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, where we fight against people who blend into the population seamlessly, is an interesting point to address in regards to those two wars. The evolution of the USA from the fire bombing of the wooden German and Japanese cities, and ultimately the nuking of two Japanese cities, is dramatic. In one hundred years some historian will be able to put it into context, for us it is a little to close to home, a fish trying to describe water... You might be ahead of your time, but I think you're right on. This is a structural element in the behavior of nations and soldiers, where today we recognize the value of the civilians on the other side of the battlefield.
